PITTSBURGH — Services will be held next week in honor of Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who died Saturday morning after being struck on a Florida interstate.
There will be a visitation from 10-11 a.m. April 22 at Allegheny Center Alliance Church, 250 East Ohio St.
A celebration of life service will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Haskins' wife, Kalabrya, issued a statement Wednesday afternoon through the Steelers: "I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss. The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated. The meaningful touches and impact Dwayne made as a husband, son, brother, teammate and friend is a timeless treasure imbrued in our hearts. I am truly grateful to everyone who has been by our side as we mourn his untimely passing. Our family implores for your continued prayers, yet continued respectful privacy as we painfully grieve.
"My husband was more than a great football player. He had the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many. He will forever rest and remain in our hearts til the end of time. His eternal love will always reside with us, Ohio State, Washington Commanders and Steelers Nation for eternity! LOVE OF MY LIFE, FOREVER... REST IN THE BEAUTIFUL PEACE OF HEAVEN!"
A funeral service will be held from noon to 3 p.m. April 23 at Christ Church in Rockaway, N.J., where Haskins was born and spent part of his youth, according to WUSA TV in Washington, D.C. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. April 24 at Bullis School in Potomac, Md., where Haskins attended high school.
"We have had such an overwhelming outpouring of love for our son since the news broke of our loss," Haskins' parents, Dwayne Sr. and Tamara, said in a statement. "Anyone who knew Dwayne knows he worked exceptionally hard to achieve such a high level of success at such a young age. He was touched by so many people on his journey to being a standout athlete and we are grateful to all of them. This pain is unimaginable and we appreciate everyone who shares in our heartbreak."
Haskins was in Florida training with other Steelers players last week. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
Washington selected Haskins with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Steelers last year and made the 53-man roster last season. He dressed for one game with the Steelers but did not play.
