Funeral for Glasgow teacher Marelle Sturrock announced as family pay loving tribute

A celebration of Glasgow teacher Marelle Sturrock's life is set to take place in her hometown of Wick in Caithness, as family confirm the date of her funeral.

The 35-year-old primary teacher was 29 weeks pregnant when she was tragically murdered by her partner David Yates in her Glasgow home on Jura Street, which also took the life of her unborn son late last month.

A date has officially been set for the funeral of Marelle's life with her family having sent a death notice to John O'Groat Journal - during which they paid tribute to their "beloved daughter" and "dearly loved granddaughter", as well as her unborn son, Jayden Sturrock - reports the John O'Groat Journal.

The service invite has been extended to "all family and friends" and is due to take place at Dundee crematorium on Friday, May 26 at 12.30pm.

The grieving family wrote: "On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, Marelle, aged 35 years and son to be, Jayden Sturrock. Beloved daughter of Colin and Lorna, much loved sister of Clare and Sarah, dearly loved granddaughter of Dorothy and the late Grant Sturrock, loving sister-in-law of Evan and Richard and a loving aunt.

"Funeral service, in Dundee crematorium, on Friday, May 26, at 12.30pm, to which all family and friends are respectfully invited.

"Family flowers only, please, but donations if desired, may be made to various children's charities at the crematorium.

"A celebration of Marelle’s life will be held at a later date in Wick."
