Funeral arrangements confirmed for Sligo man Russell Forde who tragically died after daytime assault

Funeral details have been confirmed for the man who died after a daytime attack in Sligo - named locally as Russell Forde.

The 39-year-old, from Yeats Drive, Cranmore, was found with head injuries at Rockwood Parade shortly after 5.00pm on Tuesday, April 19.

Emergency services tended to Mr Forde at the scene of the incident before rushing him to Sligo University Hospital.

A short time later, he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for treatment, where he later passed away.

Tributes have since been pouring in on social media for the victim, with one friend revealing that they were "in shock" at the news of his death.

One person wrote: "It's a sad day... we also lost another friend this morning... rip Russell Forde you are already missed buddy... we are all in shock."

Another commented: "RIP our friend you will be deeply missed still can't believe you're gone."

Garda investigations are ongoing but there have been no arrests made and there is still an active appeal for witnesses to come forward.

In numerous statements published in recent days, officers have asked for "anyone with information to contact Sligo Garda Station (071) 915 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”

Mr. Forde’s remains will repose at the Foley and McGowan in Sligo tomorrow from 12:00 pm with a celebration of his life at 1.30 pm. He will be laid to rest afterward in Sligo Cemetery.

The message on RIP.ie confirmed that Russell died “suddenly, at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

“Russell, predeceased by his father Eugene. Beloved son of Eileen and dear brother of Warren, Wayne, Giles and Owen.

“He will be sadly missed by his mother, brothers, sisters-in-law Lisa, Orlaith, Stacey and Amy, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and his wide circle of family and friends both home and abroad.”
