A fundraising page has been set up after a 76-year-old grandmother reportedly had £4,000 stolen from her while in Wetherspoons in Sunderland.

Northumbria Police received a report of theft that occurred inside The William Jameson Wetherspoons pub on Fawcett Street, Sunderland shortly before 6.20pm on Friday (January 21).

The woman had reportedly withdrawn £4,000 from a local bank before visiting the pub where a woman then stole the cash from her bag before leaving.

A Go Fund Me page was set up to try and raise £4,000 to replace the stolen money by the woman's granddaughter.

The page said: "Hi, my nan was robbed in Wetherspoons pub in Sunderland, this was quite a lot of money £3,900 got stolen.

"My nana got followed from her bank to the pub then had this money stolen.

"My nana is 76-years-old and will help anybody out and give her last to them so I'm hoping that this will help my nana out a little!"

At the time of publishing, the page had raised £130 towards the £4,000 goal.

Officers are investigating the incident and would like to speak to anyone who has any information.
