Fundraiser to help victims of Creeslough tragedy reaches over €70,000

A fundraiser has been set up to support the families of those who have been killed and injured in the explosion at the Applegreen in Creeslough.

Gerard McFadden from Creeslough has set up a Gofundme page in order to help the people of his hometown who have been affected in the tragic incident on Friday in the Co Donegal town.

Currently living in Brisbane, Australia, he said that he felt he needed to do something to help the community which "is in a state of shock" following the deaths of ten people.

Gardai said that four men, three women, two teenagers and a younger girl of primary school age died in the explosion.

Eight further people, also at the service station at the time of the explosion, have been transported to hospital. One person, who is in critical condition, has been transferred to Dublin, while the other seven remain in a "stable condition" at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Gerard said: "I have lots of family and friends in Creeslough and the whole place is just in a state of shock at the minute.

"It is unbelievable, you wouldn't see anything like this in the movies.

"My father, who passed away in April, was the chair of the Creeslough Community Association and he did so much for the town throughout his life and I knew that I had to try and do something to try and help everyone there in any way that I can.

"The response to the appeal so far has been overwhelming with people from across the world donating and showing their support. I would like to thank everyone who has donated and shared the appeal and particularly two friends in London and America who have helped spread the word and encourage donations.

"My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy."
