Fuming Rangers punter ramps up Celtic VAR conspiracy theory as Willie Collum stat bomb dropped over 'gifts' - Hotline

It's not the first Sunday for Willie Collum to be the star of the Hotline show but his penalty award to Celtic against Ross County hit new heights of outrage.

The referee came under fire for his performance in Dingwall and one caller believes he should face a criminal charge. Chris Lowe, Yoker, emailed: "So long as Collum and Kevin Clancy are around our game will always be a loaded dice for Celtic The penalty awarded to Celtic against County was a joke and you know it’s bad when even the not so impartial Andy Walker says it was a disgraceful decision.

"If Celtic go on and win the league this season they can thank Collum for the five points gifted to date with his sending off of John Lundstram earlier in the season costing Rangers two points and now this gift." Ian McKendrick, emailed: "That was shocking to award Celtic a penalty which was never a penalty and the half time whistle should have been blown long before it was awarded."

Rab McNab, Dunoon, emailed: "Yet another contentious decision goes Celtic's way and their fans state that there is a conspiracy against them? I agree, after all, they are the only team during covid that got handed a title that hadn’t been won.

"With decisions like the penalty award against Ross County, it’s starting to remind me of all the favourable decisions that the Lisbon Lions got back in 67. The truth is that that team got lucky, the same “homegrown” players failed every season before and after."

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, emailed: "It's obvious by the number of clear fouls not awarded to Ross County that these officials seemed to be favouring Celtic. On a number of occasions attackers were getting climbed all over by Celtic defenders and no free kick was awarded, as for the penalty the ball came off Cameron Carter-Vickers shoulder and the goal scored in the fifth minute of one minute injury time speaks volumes.

"No team should turn up against Celtic as then the SFA will have no choice but stop what seems blatant bias by the same constant officials picked to officiate them."

John Caw, emailed: "Over many years and decades I have seen Celtic denied stonewall penalties but to give a penalty for that is nonsense.Get rid of VAR now or it will kill football. If they can’t come up with better decisions then they need to scrap it." John Robertson, South Queensferry, emailed: "Once again when Celtic are struggling they are awarded a nonsense penalty. The game in Scotland gets worse by the day."

Robert Pender, emailed: "This is becoming a criminal offence as the penalty awarded to Celtic is beyond belief. I have watched the incident over and over and I am in no doubt the ball came off the Celtic’s player shoulder."

Henry Moffat, Stirling, emailed: "What a sickener it must be for Rangers and their fans getting their hopes up week after week beating everyone apart from Celtic only to see the champions cruelly rip their hopes apart time after time. What a great season this is turning out to be. This team will not be stopped."

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, emailed: "It was a woeful performance from Celtic against County but they say even if you don't play well you can still grind out results. We were lucky we were awarded a controversial penalty and then made the most of eight minutes of mins injury time. It's a warning and better buck up our ideas for the next Old Firm game or we will be there for the taking."

Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, emailed: "If Rangers are to win at Parkhead on Sunday then they must start shooting from outside the penalty area. Far too many of our players are attempting to walk the ball into the net."

Danny McLean, Glasgow, emailed: "Brendan Rodgers being sacked by Leicester will inevitably mean speculation that Ange Postecoglou is being monitored for the job." Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, emailed: "Rodgers being sacked is simply another example of how meaningless his Invincibles title was in Scotland, where he was largely involved in a one horse race and largely against diddy teams. Rodgers did nothing at Liverpool."
