Fuming couple's honeymoon 'ruined' after being 'left stranded at Scots airport with no luggage'

A couple claim their honeymoon was "ruined" by easyJet after a delayed flight from Aberdeen Airport caused them to miss their connecting flight to Morocco. Adib Al-Mamun, 26, and his wife Tasneem Jahan, 25, were due to fly out from the Granite City at 6am on June 18, but the flight to Gatwick was delayed until 4pm - and then later delayed until 8pm.

The newlyweds then missed their flight to London, as it left early without warning. The pair, who had been at the airport since the early hours of the morning, claim they were told they could leave for some fresh air, reports My London.

They were allegedly told it was okay to leave as long as they checked updates on the easyJet app and were back in time for their 8pm flight. But when they came back, they were informed the plane had left early, taking their luggage down south.

Taking to Twitter, Adib said that easyJet "completely ruined" their honeymoon as they were left in tears due to the disastrous experience. He detailed their chaotic trip on Twitter which eventually caused them to miss three days of their trip.

He said: "@easyJet completely ruined my honeymoon. We were meant to fly out from Aberdeen to Gatwick at 6am to catch a connecting flight to Morroco at 12 noon. We were told 2 hours before our flight that it would now be delayed until 4pm. This would mean we would miss our connection.

"Had @easyJet given us more than 2 hours notice, we would have arranged alternative transport and would have made it to London to catch our connection from Gatwick. To make matters worse, we were told we had to be at the airport for our original check in time of 6am for our bags."

He continued: "So we went to the airport at the crack of dawn and waited at the airport for 10 hours so that we could board our flight at 4pm. We didn't have another flight booked to Morocco at this point, we just wanted to get to London so that we had the chance to fly out the next day.

"So 4pm came along and once again @easyJet announced another last-minute delay, this time until 8pm. My wife and I were in tears at this point, this was meant to be our honeymoon. We were exhausted and @easyJet only provided us with a £10 food voucher which barely got us a pizza."

Adib went on to claim that he and his wife desperately needed to get out of the airport for some air. He claims he was told that this was completely fine as long as they tracked the flight time on the easyJet app and came back through security in good time. They then left the airport and decided to come back at 7pm.

He said: "I constantly refreshed the @easyJet app throughout our time outside the airport. It was still scheduled for the latest time and there had been no further changes so we thought we were finally going to be able to fly to London. However, this is when things get even worse.

"We arrive back at security with ample time before the flight per the @easyJet app only to find out that the plane has taken off early. No updates were made on the app (I have screenshots) and worse still they had sent our bags on the flight without us."

The couple were then reportedly told that they wouldn't be able to go to Gatwick but instead would have to go to Luton the following night. He said it was "incredibly stressful" having to transfer from Luton to Gatwick at Sunday midnight to Monday early morning. When they arrived they claimed that they struggled to find their bags.

He said: "Honestly we had given up trying to find our bags and had booked a flight from Gatwick to Tangier at a cost of over £500 between us. Eventually we found a very helpful member of staff that was able to search for our bags and retrieve them for us.

"It was nearly 4am at this point and our flight to Tangier was at 6am (this wasn't even a direct flight, it had a 7-hour stopover in Valencia). "By the time we reached Tangier by Monday evening, we had lost 3 days from our honeymoon."

He added: "Our sleep pattern had been destroyed and it was difficult to enjoy the first few days of our trip."

An easyJet spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for the delay to the couple’s flight from Aberdeen to London Gatwick, especially as this was at the start of such a special trip for them. This was due to a technical issue with the aircraft and a replacement aircraft from London being sourced to operate the flight.

"Our ground crew did all possible to mitigate the impact of the delay and provided refreshment vouchers for customers in the airport, however, we fully understand and are very sorry for the difficulty this delay will have caused. We ask that passengers do not leave the airport in case the delay is reduced, however, we are aware the couple chose to leave the airport and unfortunately missed their flight to London.

“The safety and security of our customers and crew is our highest priority and while are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the delay in reuniting them with their luggage, to be clear at no point was the safety of the flight compromised as all luggage undergoes stringent security checks before being loaded onto the aircraft.

“Our customer team are in contact with them to apologise for their experience and process their claim for compensation.”
