Fully immersive theatre show 'The Ghost House' coming to Belfast this Halloween

A new immersive Halloween experience is coming to Belfast this spooky season.

Award-winning Belfast-based children’s theatre company, Cahoots will be staging a new walk-through show 'The Ghost House' from October 14th right until Halloween night. Cahoots is at the forefront of Northern Irish theatre and is the leading professional theatre company producing work for children.

The groundbreaking show is a completely new theatre experience where the audience will experience a ‘time slip’ event, stepping into the past and visiting a number of eerie locations - all of which have been created within 10,000 sq ft of disused warehousing space inside Cityside Retail and Leisure Park.

Artistic Director of Cahoots, Paul Bosco Mc Eneaney said: "Last year we were delighted to see our autumn show, The Grimm Hotel, sell out so quickly and become one of the festival’s standout hits. We dared ourselves to be even more ambitious with The Ghost House and I think we’ve created something even bigger and better."

Based on an original story by playwright Charles Way, The Ghost House introduces visitors to the renowned paranormal investigator, Lady Helena Hope. Guests will be guided through the thin veil which separates our world from the past as they uncover the story of Black Hearted Benjamin, the highwayman rumoured to haunt the house at the heart of the story.

Secrets emerge and things definitely go bump in the night as visitors experience the story up close and personal, interacting with a host of otherwordly characters and the shadowy world of shipwrecks and sword fights on their journey.

The Ghost House is a show which encompasses immersive theatre, contemporary dance and high-tech illusion and features a stellar line-up of local and international performers, crew and creatives.

Richard Wakely, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Belfast International Arts Festival said: "Building on the sell-out success of last year's walk-through theatre experience, I've no doubt that The Ghost House will also amaze and entertain audiences in equal measure. 2022 is a significant year for us both, as Belfast International Arts Festival celebrates 60 years and Cahoots turns 21. Here's to many successful years ahead!"

Gilly Campbell, Director of Arts Development, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented: "The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is hugely proud to support the multi-award-winning, critically-acclaimed Cahoots, whose track record in creating innovative, magical theatre experiences for young people and families speaks for itself.

"With their trademark ingenuity and wizardry, Cahoots is back this autumn with The Ghost House, an exciting, immersive theatre experience. This latest show promises to be a wonder to behold and I would encourage everyone to go along and be amazed!”
