'Full strength' - Eddie Howe on Newcastle United's approach to season-defining Leicester game

Eddie Howe has made a huge vow ahead of the clash with Leicester City by insisting he will go full strength in the club's bid to reach a League Cup semi-final for the first time since 1976.

The Newcastle head coach was left frustrated by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday night as the Owls ended United's hopes in the FA Cup. But one road to Wembley is still very much open to Newcastle.

Howe hopes to welcome back Callum Wilson, Nick Pope and Fabian Schar while Allan Saint-Maximin will get the chance to prove his fitness against Leicester. The game will take place in front of a sell out crowd on Tyneside.

When asked about his selection this time, Howe said: "We’ll be going full strength to win the match. Allan, I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see. Callum, I expect to be back.

"Fingers crossed, Nick Pope and Fabian Schar will also be back. The fact it’s earlier in the season you have a better chance of playing your stronger team."

Howe also explained what he saw as a difference to the FA Cup game against Wednesday and the meeting with Leicester. He said: "Saturday’s game, the timing, that was difficult because of Tuesday’s upcoming game. It was a very quick turnaround on the back of a congested league period.

"But the Carabao Cup, in the latter stages, now takes on huge importance."
