Edinburgh will be hit with yet more travel chaos this week as the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers take industrial action once again.
This means Network Rail members of the RMT will be striking on the following dates:
- Tuesday, January 3, 2023
- Wednesday, January 4, 2023
- Friday, January 6, 2023
- Saturday, January 7, 2023

While this is a separate dispute, the planned strikes on those days will cause disruption to ScotRail services, as Network Rail Scotland signallers and maintenance staff, who are in safety-critical roles, will be on strike.
So, how will this affect Edinburgh and services leaving the capital on these days? Read on below to find out more.
The affected ScotRail services in January 2023
ScotRail are planning to operate the following timetables between 7:30am and 6:30pm on Tuesday, January 3 until Saturday, January 7:
- Edinburgh - Glasgow via Falkirk High: two trains per hour

- Edinburgh – Glasgow via Shotts: one train per hour
- Edinburgh – Cowdenbeath: two trains per hour

Additionally, on the non-strike day - Thursday, 5 January - the same limited timetable will be in operation. This is due to the closing and reopening of signal boxes at different times throughout the day. It is hoped that some additional routes can be added, but customers should check Journey Planner for details before they travel.
