Robert Carlyle has admitted that he won't be getting his kit off this time around as the reboot of The Full Monty is set to launch next week.
The Scots actor appeared on This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary to talk about the new eight-part TV series which will be broadcast on Disney+. You can watch it here.
The Full Monty movie first came out 26 years ago, and now Robert and the rest of the original cast – including Mark Addy and Hugo Speer – will reprise their roles for the series which has been created by the movie’s Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, and its producer, Uberto Pasolini.
Starting the interview, Robert admitted that he was hesitant to reprise his role at first.
Alison said: "Can you believe it's been 26 years? It's unbelievable!"
Robert smiled: "Ah, in some ways you can't and then in other ways, like in my body I can believe it's been 26 years!"
Alison added: "So when you got the call from Disney plus to come back, were you straight in there?
He said: "Well I had a certain hesitation because you don't want to take part in anything that's going to downgrade the memories because the film was so loved by so many people around the world.
"But, the other side of the coin is like, The Full Monty has been like a big warm shadow that has followed me around my whole career and the prospect of going back there and working with the guys again was too good an opportunity."
Dermot asked: "More than any other film? Like Trainspotting?"
Robert added: "I made them both about two years apart so it's difficult for me to separate them both!"
Talk then turned to the main storyline of the original film which is stripping and Alison wanted to know if the Scots actor would be getting his kit off once more.
She said: "Everyone wants to know - it's The Fully Monty - does this mean you're going to get your kit off again?"
He said: "Alison, yer kidding! Nobody wants to see that! Naw!"
She added: "So you won't be getting naked?"
Robert replied: "No, certainly not! Do you know that scene [the famous 'you can leave your hat on' scene] took two and a half days to film! It was a nightmare, and the people that were in the audience weren't extras they were people from the local community, queuing up to see. So at the end of the two days at that last moment when the hat went off it was just traumatising!
"Look at me, I'm still traumatised to this day!"
