NHS staff and rail workers are among those striking in March, as ongoing disputes over pay and working conditions escalate amid the cost of living crisis.
Last month saw the UK's biggest day of industrial action in more than a decade as 500,000 workers walked out across schools, the government and public transport firms on February 1. This month will see teachers, university lecturers, NHS staff, civil servants and rail workers walk out.
Rail workers have been striking since last summer and members of the RMT union will walk out again for three days this month, affecting 14 train operators throughout the country. Nurses were also due to strike this month, but have agreed to pause industrial action amid “intensive talks” with the Government with a view to finding a settlement in the bitter dispute over pay.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and the Government issued a joint statement saying that the talks would focus on “pay, terms and conditions, and productivity enhancing reforms”.
BBC journalists will also strike on Spring Statement day, when Chancellor Jeremy Hunt makes his fiscal announcement to the House of Commons. A 24-hour strike where up to as many as 1,000 journalists are expected to walk out will begin at 11am on March 15.
