Full list of the 'coolest places' to live in Bristol

Bristol is full of interesting and creative places to live. Lucky residents are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding fun places to hang out with friends or beautiful scenery for walks.

However, our city's harbourside has won the prestigious title of being the coolest place to live in Bristol, according to a new poll. The buzzing dockside district was the highest-rated location in the city in a list of the 50 coolest places to live by health and well-being brand Naturecan.

In second place was Montpelier, Cotham was third, Clifton was fourth and Southville was fifth. Locations were ranked according to the number of independent shops per head of population, the range of cultural events, how ‘Instagrammable’ the best features were and their popularity as a location for films and TV shows.

Naturecan polled 5,000 people with panels in each county and all our big cities, including Bristol, and monitored likes on Instagram for each location in the top 50.

Once a busy dock where sailors and merchants would trade goods and set sail for voyages of discovery, Bristol's Harbourside is now an attractive, modern development filled with restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.

The area is alive with the buzz of Sunday markets, waterside restaurants and bars and a whole host of sports and activities including yachting, paddle boarding, cycling and rowing. The Steve Coogan movie Stan & Ollie was filmed around the Harbourside as well.

Naturecan’s chief executive Andy Duckworth said: “Harbourside is the coolest place to live in Bristol and eighth to Polperro in the whole of the UK for the top 50 coolest places.

“All the 50 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK and Bristol in particular are such beautiful places, loved by film makers and tourists from all over the world.

“What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 50. It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses a city such as Bristol as a location.

“Hidden gems which are largely only visited by local tourists can find themselves being showcased throughout the world if they are pictured by the right influencer or featured in a movie.”

The news comes as another Bristol area was ranked among the 15 ‘coolest’ urban areas in Britain, according to The Telegraph. The national paper listed Wapping Wharf as the 13th coolest neighbourhood in Britain, describing it as an ‘up and coming’ part of the city which locals flock to for the ‘hippest restaurants’.
