A raft of pothole-ridden roads in Renfrewshire are headed for a makeover as part of a comprehensive programme of council works.
Forty-eight carriageways will be resurfaced and another 15 patched, while 75 footways have been earmarked for improvements.
Around £6.7 million was poured into the infrastructure as part of the SNP administration's budget, which has paved the way for the significant enhancement exercise during the current financial year.
Councillor Chris Gilmour, Labour group spokesperson for infrastructure and environment, welcomed the planned works but questioned whether cash should also be spent on equipment that would allow repairs to be carried out more efficiently.
He said: "While it is always good to see continued investment in roads and footways, many people will be disappointed that their area has not been included in this particular programme of works.
"Financial and operational constraints are of course a factor, however, the question must be asked, could the work be done in a more efficient way by investing in state-of-the-art machinery which would allow these repairs to be completed quickly and efficiently, thereby reducing inconvenience for local communities and allowing more repairs to be carried out within that budgetary period?"
Renfrewshire Council said the programme will prioritise the roads "most in need of repair" – with the works to be carried out alongside other "emergency" fixes needed throughout the year.
A spokesperson said: "This year's roads and footway programme continues the record £40m five-year investment we are making in our roads network, which has shown to be successful through the number of potholes requiring repair, and the number reported by residents, reducing year-on-year.
"Our resurfacing programme prioritises the roads identified as most in need of repair and these will be carried out along with any required pothole and emergency carriageway repairs required throughout the year.
"Our recent You Decide campaign saw footways put forward for repair by local community members and, while they weren’t chosen by the community during the You Decide vote, we are taking them forward as part of our programme of investment – further supporting our community engagement approach as a council.
"We continue to invest to ensure a safe roads network in Renfrewshire and welcome suggestion for roads to be included in future programmes."
