Full list of new rates for Universal Credit and other benefits from April 2020

The benefit freeze will finally come to an end in April after 10 years of tough measures on claimants - and a new set of rates and payments will come into force.

Freezes and caps on most benefits have lasted since 2010 - including no rise at all since 2015.

MPs voted to bring that to an end, and most payments will rise by 1.7%. That includes £8.48 a month for the standard couple's Universal Credit, £1.10 a week on Carer's Allowance and £1.60 on sick pay.

As the Mirror reports, the new benefit rates still won't catch up with the years of Tory cuts, which a committee of MPs say cost families between £888 and £1,845 per year.

And the State Pension will rise by a much bigger 3.9% because it is protected by the Tories' 'triple lock' - which ensures it rises by earnings, prices, or 2.5%, whichever is highest.

When they announced the move last year, Tory ministers boasted the "strong economy" would allow them to "bolster the welfare safety net".

There is good news for claimants (PA)

The DWP says the increase in payments when the freeze is lifted is set to benefit more than 10 million people.
