Marks and Spencer cafes are known for their range of sandwiches and cakes, but the retailer has now confirmed it is launching a brand new afternoon tea offering for the first time in stores. The new afternoon tea will be available in selected M&S cafes from today, Monday March 13, from 2pm onwards.
M&S bosses say they are "delivering the magic of tea-time" with the new offering, launched in time for Mother’s Day which is Sunday, March 19. The afternoon tea will be priced at £12.50 which includes sandwiches, cakes, scones and a pot of tea.
M&S bosses are promising "five star quality" with its new afternoon tea. But at £12.50 it comes in at a vastly reduced figure than you would expect to pay for afternoon tea at luxury hotels across Manchester where traditional afternoon teas are priced around £25 - £30.

Luckily for fans of an M&S cafe, a number of the stores launching the new offering from today are in the area. They are the stores in Bury at The Rock, Manchester city centre and Handforth Dean, just across the Cheshire border.
Cafes in Warrington, Liverpool, Cheshire Oaks and Chester also make the list of cafes that were announced today by M&S that will be serving up the new treat.
The M&S afternoon tea will include a luxury sandwich selection, all-butter scone, Cornish clotted cream, fresh strawberries, mini chocolate cupcake topped with buttercream, French macaron, cinnamon Palmier biscuit and Luxury Fairtrade tea – for £12.50 per person. For extra sparkle, a mini bottle of Conte Priuli Oro Prosecco can also be added for £5.
Claire Hodgson, Lead Product Developer for Hospitality at M&S, said: "We are extremely excited to launch this 5* quality Afternoon Tea for £12.50, so Café fans across the nation can enjoy a delicious treat with loved ones whatever the occasion.
"As you would expect, every item is made using the very best ingredients from British chicken and British outdoor reared ham in our sandwiches to Cornish clotted cream in our scones.
"After all, this is not just any tea, this is an M&S Afternoon Tea”.
