Full list of March food recalls so far affecting Supervalu, Dunnes and Tesco

There have been a large number of recalls published by the Food Safety Authority so far in March.

Most of the products are common items on your grocery list, so ensuring you don’t have the affected batches is vital.

The majority of the alerts affect Dunnes Stores customers as a total of 14 products have been recalled in a matter of days.

Elsewhere, there were recalls affecting Supervalu and Donnybrook fair stores, as well as Tesco customers.

So here are all of the recalls this month so far that you should be aware of.

Dunnes Stores

On March 5, nine products were pulled from shelves at Dunnes Stores after safety warnings were issued.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warned that some batches of these products could contain Listeria monocytogenes.

The harmful bacteria can cause mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications with some groups - including pregnant women, babies, and the elderly - more vulnerable.

A separate recall notice was also issued for the same reason on Hanniffy’s Fresh Home-made Coleslaw.

The pack size is 230g and the affected batch has a use-by date of March 8.

Then, just days later, a third product recall was published affecting batches of Dunnes Stores Semi Dried Cherry Tomatoes over "a potential risk to health" by long-term consumption of the pesticide chlorpyrifos.

The FSAI said: "[Certain] batches of Dunnes Stores Semi Dried Cherry Tomatoes are being recalled due to the presence of the pesticide chlorpyrifos which is no longer approved for food use in the EU.”

Two days later, three types of coleslaw sold in Dunnes Stores were taken off shelves in relation to the earlier alert for the same type of product.

This was again due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause mild flu-like symptoms, gastrointestinal symptoms, and in some cases, more severe conditions.

The details of those recalled products are:

  • Butlers Coleslaw - pack size 250g - use by dates: 13, 14, and 15 March 2022
  • Butlers Lite Coleslaw - pack size 250g - use by dates: 13, 14, and 15 March 2022
  • Butlers Egg Mayonaise - pack size 350g - use by dates: 12, 13 and 14 March 2022

Supervalu/ Donnybrook Fair

Today, Donnybrook Fair is warning that two of its balsamic glazes could be unsafe for some consumers.

The products contain sulphites which are not mentioned on the label.

This may make the affected products unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of sulphites or sulphur dioxide.

It applies to Donnybrook Fair Sweet Raspberry Balsamic Glaze and Donnybrook Fair Purple Fig Balsamic Glaze.

These have a pack size of 200ml and the warning applies to all batches and all best before dates.

Tesco

A second recall was issued today for Tesco customers over a brand of instant noodles.

The specific batch of Nongshim Shin Kimchi instant noodle soup is being recalled due to the presence of an unauthorised pesticide - ethylene oxide.

Prolonged ingestion of this chemical can cause illness and so a point of sale recall notice is being displayed in affected stores.

The recall affects pack sizes of 120g with a Best before date of 19/05/2022.
