Full list of Greggs outlets that sell food at 75% off - is one near you?

Greggs has opened a new store that only sells food at a discount.

The idea of the Greggs Outlet is to help cut down on food waste and provide cheaper food to people in need.

The latest Greggs Outlet is in Newham, East London - and means the much-loved bakers now has 30 discounted stores.

Most are located in the North of the UK - the traditional heartland of Greggs, which was founded in Newcastle.

The Outlets sell food that is a day old, but still perfectly safe to eat - with discounts of up to 75% off.

Greggs wants to have 50 Outlets by 2025.

Also, some of the profits of each Outlet go to The Greggs Foundation and are given to local community groups.

Greggs chief executive Roisin Currie said: “As a leading food on the go retailer in the UK, it’s important that we do our bit to put an end to food waste and help to tackle poverty, hunger and deprivation across all the communities we operate in.

"We have three channels for giving good food a second chance – we donate it to charities who can make use of it. we offer it to our customers at a discount via the Too Good To Go app and we sell it at a discount through our outlet shops.”

However, Greggs is not well-loved in all parts of the UK.

The bakery chain has so far failed to establish a viable foothold in the home of the pasty - Cornwall.

A pasty war has broken out after Greggs announced it will open an outlet in Cornwall’s only city.

It tried to open its first bakery in Cornwall in 2019, in Saltash, but it closed after nine months due to poor trade.

It has since opened two outlets, one on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Launceston and another at a service station on the A30.

The new bakery in Truro, the county town, will be launched on December 6 and proud locals have reacted with dismay. One described Greggs as “the Devil’s spawn”.

Another resident said: “This is the first major battle in a full-on war. It is an invasion of our capital.’’

Greggs said: “We can confirm we are due to open a new shop in Truro.”
