A number of road closures and roadworks will be in place across the North East this week.
While some roads are fully closed, other roads have lane closures and temporary traffic measures in place affecting some of the region's busiest routes. And drivers are urged to make allowances for these closures and alter their travel arrangements if necessary.
Diversion routes may also be in place on various roads, so motorists are urged to see if any of the works on this list are likely to disrupt their journeys. These road closures are for the week starting from Monday, October 31 to Sunday, November 9.

South Tyneside
- A183 Sea Road, South Shields - Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A183 Sea Road near B1344 until December 9.
A185 Victoria Road West, Hebburn - Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on A185 Victoria Road West at Chaffinch Drive until November 18.
West Holborn, South Shields - Closed in both directions due to roadworks from Laygate Street to Weetman Street until March 2023.
Newcastle
A189 Jesmond Dene Road, Newcastle - Temporary traffic lights due to emergency gas main repairs on A189 Jesmond Dene Road at Beatty Avenue. Until November 2.
- A191 Denton Road, Denton -Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on A191 Denton Road at B1311 Whickham View until November 11.
- Heaton Road, Newcastle - Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on Heaton Road at A1058 Stephenson Road. Until November 10.
Kingsway, Fenham - Closed in both directions closed due to roadworks between Fenham Hall Drive and Queensway until March 29.
Redheugh Bridge Road, Newcastle -Closed due to roadworks from Shot Factory Lane to A695 Railway Street until June 2023.
Regent Farm Road, Gosforth - Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on Regent Farm Road at Beal Way until November 3.
Strawberry Lane, Newcastle - Closed in both directions due to roadworks from Strawberry Place to St Andrew's Street until February 23.
Sunderland
- A1018 Newcastle Road, Sunderland - Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on A1018 Newcastle Road at Portobello Lane until November 23.
B1286 Silksworth Road, East Herrington - Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B1286 Silksworth Road at Longmeadows until November 18.
- Burdon Lane, Ryhope - No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Burdon Lane in both directions between Woodham Drive (Ryhope, Sunderland) and Burdon Turn-off (Burdon, Sunderland) until August 2023 due to the construction of the new Ryhope to Doxford Link road.
Burdon Lane, Ryhope - Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on Burdon Lane near Bevan Avenue. Until November 14.
- Crozier Street, Sunderland -Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on Crozier Street at A1018 Newcastle Road until November 23.

Gateshead
Team Street, Gateshead - Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Team Street at Rose Street until November 18.
- A1 Western Bypass - Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) J65 / A194M Birtley until May 2025.
North Tyneside
- A189 - Camperdown Industrial Estate - One lane closed due to roadworks on A189 at A1056 Killingworth Way on the roundabout near to High Gosforth Park until April 7.
Liddell Street, North Shields - Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on Liddell Street near Clive Street, until May 2024.
- Tyne Street, North Shields - Closed in both directions due to roadworks from Union Street to Stephenson Street until May 2023.
County Durham
Wallnook Lane, Langley Park - closed in both directions due to roadworks between Front Terrace and Firs Terrace until December 2024.
