Leeds United’s unbeaten start to the season will face a stern test on Sunday as they host Chelsea. The Whites have accumulated four points from their opening two matches, but Thomas Tuchel’s side will provide Leeds with a real indicator of how far they have come.
That said, Leeds enter the game above the Blues in the table on goals scored after also earning a win and a draw to begin the season. Ahead of the game this weekend, here is an early look at the potential injury doubts Chelsea have and whether they could be available at Elland Road.
N’Golo Kante – hamstring
During the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Kante was forced off injured with six minutes remaining. Tuchel confirmed after the game that it is not looking good for the Frenchman.

What Tuchel said (Aug 14): “It seems another muscle injury, the hamstring. He said he feels it pretty strong. So not good news.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Mateo Kovacic – knee
Mateo Kovacic is yet to play a single minute so far this season due to an ongoing knee injury. He was on the bench on the opening day against Everton, but missed out completely yesterday and it remains unclear as to when he’ll be back.
What Tuchel said (Aug 12): “Unfortunately, with his knee, there has been a reaction. We decided to take a step back, to increase treatment time to reduce the stress that comes from training.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Marcos Alonso – other
Marcos Alonso has also played no part for Chelsea this season as he looks to finalise a switch to Barcelona.
What Tuchel said (Aug 12): “Marcos is not in training at the moment as he tries to finalise his move, so he won't be in contention for Sunday.”
Potential return date: Unknown
