‘Full bush in a bikini’: the sudden rise of pubic hair positivity

Name: The full bush in a bikini movement.

Age: A mere five days, born on TikTok.

Appearance: Dense and luxuriant.

Well, it’s certainly nice to have a bit of foliage at this time of year. Glad to have you on board.

And it’s also heartening to hear that the TikTok generation is getting into gardening. Yes, of a sort.

Although in January I just tend to give everything a good hard prune. This is about doing the complete opposite.

I suppose it depends on what kind of bush we’re talking about? We’re talking about female pubic hair.

Are we really? Specifically, a pubic hair positivity trend labouring under the title “Full bush in a bikini”.

Please explain. It all started with a TikTok influencer announcing that she had been “radicalised” by an Etsy review.

I can safely say that’s never happened to me. The review, for a bikini, featured the customer modelling said swimsuit.

In an obviously untrimmed state, I take it? Yup, hence “Full bush in a bikini”, a phrase the TikToker repeats over and over, incredulously, before concluding: “That’s how it should be.” Her post got 9.5 million views in two days.

Wow. That suggests a rather substantial swing against modern depilatory practices. That it does.

And it went viral? Other TikTokers claimed to have been similarly radicalised by the first TikTok video, and the battle cry “full bush in a bikini” then spread to other social media platforms.

That is really excellent marketing. I think you’re missing the point.

I just mean it must be hard to sell swimsuits when it’s freezing outside. As a catalyst for the movement, the original Etsy review has proved something of a philosopher’s stone. People have been diligently searching for it, but as yet there are no confirmed sightings.

Did you delete your search history afterwards? I did, yeah.

Is it possible this viral movement could finally liberate young women from the needless pressure to conform to perceived standards of feminine beauty? Oh, please – it’s a TikTok meme, not a march on parliament. It’s really more of a mood than a campaign.

OK, but maybe the balance is beginning to tip? You may think so, if you’d never seen the rest of TikTok.

Still, at least it lets you know which way the wind is blowing. You know another good way to tell which way the wind is blowing? On a beach, maybe?

Do say: “FULL BUSH IN A BIKINI!”

Don’t say: “Stop worrying what others think! Like, comment, subscribe!”
