The Tennessee Titans signed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Andre Dillard to a three-year contract at the start of free agency, and the Titans have since made that move official.
However, even after he was announced, we still didn’t have the full contract breakdown for Dillard, which would tell us just how invested the team is in him. Well, thanks to Over the Cap, we now have that breakdown.
Dillard’s three-year deal is worth a base value of $28.8 million, with $10 million fully guaranteed. He also receives a signing bonus of $5.99 million.
In order to help lower his 2023 cap hit to $2.5 million, the Titans have added two void years to Dillard’s deal. Those void years will lead to dead-cap hits of $2.3 million in 2026 and $1.1 million in 2027.
The Titans can comfortably escape the contract in 2025 if things go south. In that scenario, Dillard would account for a dead-cap hit of $3.5 million.
When taking everything into consideration, the Titans aren’t really committed to Dillard for very long, seeing as how they can reasonably get out of the deal after two seasons.
Also bear in mind, the Titans have swallowed bigger cap hits than Dillard’s 2024 dead-cap figure ($7.7 million) when the you-know-what hits the fan with a player (see: Bud Dupree).
Dillard is expected to assume the left tackle job in 2023, a role he said he has his “sight set on”, but his presence should not preclude the Titans from taking a left tackle they really like, even at No. 11 overall.
