Fulham v Liverpool LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction

Fulham vs Liverpool LIVE

Liverpool failed to take another big step towards sealing the Premier League title as they went down to Fulham at Craven Cottage. After Arsenal dropped points with a 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday, Arne Slot’s could have pulled 14 points clear at the top with a win in west London.

Despite exiting the Champions League, losing the Carabao Cup final last month and now this defeat, Liverpool remain on course to be crowned champions by a comfortable margin and need only 11 points from their remaining seven games.

But Liverpool were stunned by three goals in 14 minutes in the first half, as their 26-match unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end and an impressive Fulham side boosted their European hopes thanks to goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz. Here come the two teams

13:55 , Giuseppe Muro

The players are in the tunnel at Craven Cottage. It’s a glorious day in west London, the pitch is immaculate… perfect conditions for football.

Silva: Fulham need to be 'close to perfection'

13:51 , Giuseppe Muro

Marco Silva is confident Fulham will make life difficult for Liverpool this afternoon, but admits his side need to be “close to perfection” to win the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports just now, Silva said: “Every time you play against them the game is competitive, we make it difficult for them every single time.

“We need energy in our side and we want to give something to our fans. We need to be close to perfection to win this game.”

13:43 , Giuseppe Muro

A reminder of how things stand at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool have an 11-point lead over Arsenal with a game in hand, so a win will take them 14 points clear.

The Reds only need 11 points from their remaining eight games to be crowned champions.

13:36 , Giuseppe Muro

Mohamed Salah struggled in the reverse fixture against Fulham at Anfield, but he has had a hand in exactly two goals in each of his last four away Premier League appearances.

No player has ever done so in five away games in a row, with Thierry Henry also having a run of four between April and August 2003.

Slot explains Gakpo and Jones decisions

13:28 , Giuseppe Muro

Arne Slot has been explaining his team selection to Sky Sports, including Cody Gakpo's return and Curtis Jones keeping his place at right-back.

"Lucho Diaz played a very good game [against Everton] but we've got two very good left wingers and today we choose Cody,” he said.

"I think Curtis did well defensively as well as offensively. I can only see how he will do against this playing style if I play him.

"Conor Bradley is back on the bench, so he is able to get some playing time, which is good. Let's see how Curtis does against a completely different playing style."

13:19 , Giuseppe Muro

Is this a good omen for Liverpool?

The Reds have won each of their last three away Premier League games in London, beating Tottenham, West Ham and Brentford.

Van Dijk ready for 'big fight'

13:11 , Giuseppe Muro

Virgil van Dijk has been speaking to Sky Sports at Craven Cottage and says Liverpool have to be ready for a “big fight” this afternoon.

Asked about an opportunity for Liverpool after Arsenal dropped points yesterday, Van Dijk said: “The only thing we can do is focus on ourselves, that is what I have said from day one.

“We have to be ready for a big fight today. That is the message.

“Fulham have individual quality to punish you and they are ver compact. We know what is at stake, today is another opportunity to give it everything.”

It looks like Fulham have reverted to a back-four after their switch to a back-three at Arsenal.

Marco Silva makes five changes from the team that lost 2-1 to Arsenal, with Ryan Sessegnon, Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Rodrigo Muniz and Andreas Pereira coming into the side.

Kenny Tete is back in the squad for the first time since December.

12:54 , Giuseppe Muro

So there’s no Alisson for Liverpool and Caoimhin Kelleher continues in goal.

Liverpool had hoped Alisson would pass concussion protocols and return after missing Wednesday’s Merseyside derby win over Everton following his head injury on Brazil duty over the international break.

But Kelleher starts at Craven Cottage.

Curtis Jones continues at right-back, with Conor Bradley back on the bench.

The only change from the win over Everton sees Cody Gakpo replace Luis Diaz, who drops to the bench.

Team news on the way from Craven Cottage...

Slot: Liverpool have missed Jota at his best

12:29 , Giuseppe Muro

Arne Slot says Liverpool have missed Diogo Jota being at his best following the forward's return to the scoresheet with his Merseyside derby winner.

Jota netted his ninth goal of an injury-disrupted season, and first since January, as he jinked past two men and fired home to secure Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Everton at Anfield.

And Reds boss Slot said of the Portugal international: "Most players, if they come in a situation where they think they can score, they get a bit mixed up in their head.

"But he can stay really calm in those moments, recognise where he has to shoot, where the defenders are, what the goalkeeper probably expects, which corner he's going to go to, and then he chooses the opposite one.

"He's calm in the moments he has to shoot - Mo (Salah) is an example of this as well - and that's one of his biggest qualities, I think.

"What I've seen this season is that he started off really well, but we missed him, we missed the best possible Jota, maybe for five or six months. It took him quite a while to get to the level he was at before he got injured.

"That's not only with him. I see this with almost all of our players that had an injury, that it takes a while to go back to Premier League level.

"They're fit, they train, but the difference between good and excellent is only a small margin. And therefore, apparently, you need to have a run of games to come back to excellent again."

- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last six away league games against Fulham (W4 D2) since a 1-0 loss in December 2011 under Kenny Dalglish

- Liverpool have scored 38 goals in 15 away Premier League matches this season, an average of 2.53 goals per game. That is their joint best in a top-flight season, also scoring at the same rate in 2013-14 (48 in 19 games, 2.53)

- Fulham have picked up one point in their last 11 Premier League matches against teams starting the day top of the table (D1 L10), though it was against Liverpool in this season’s reverse fixture, a 2-2 draw

Robertson: Trent speculation will not distract Liverpool

12:13 , Giuseppe Muro

Andy Robertson insists Liverpool players have not been affected by the increasing speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold and remain focused on winning another Premier League title.

Alongside the title race there is the long-running saga of Alexander-Arnold being linked to Real Madrid, which intensified last week, in addition to the expiring contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

But having recovered from back-to-back defeats, in cup competitions, for the first time this season prior to the international break, Robertson believes the squad displayed their professionalism with a hard-fought win in the Merseyside derby.

At the end of that game Alexander-Arnold, currently sidelined by an ankle injury, made a point of congratulating every team-mate as they came off the pitch at the final whistle with the Liverpool-born academy graduate enjoying the win as much as anyone.

Robertson said: "Trent's head is not great because he's injured. He hates being injured. None of us like being injured but it hurts Trent a little bit more. That's all he is focused on.

"It is impossible for me to say we have not seen all the noise and everyone commenting on it.

"But for us our focus is for him to get back fit and healthy. Once he does that, what will happen, will happen. No one knows that yet.

"People can talk and speculate but for us we want Trent back very soon."

Prediction

11:57 , Giuseppe Muro

The machine that is Slot’s Liverpool has been jammed on very few occasions this season. Losses to PSG and Newcastle in March were both shocks, and having beaten Everton in the week, there will be a good feeling in the camp.

Silva has built Fulham into a solid mid-table outfit since signing in 2021, and the west Londoners certainly will not go down without a fight. For Fulham to win, though, would be something of a shock, particularly given their sub-standard record against Liverpool.

Fulham 1-3 Liverpool

Liverpool team news

11:48 , Giuseppe Muro

Alisson has been undergoing concussion protocols to determine whether he can return.

The goalkeeper missed Wednesday’s Merseyside derby win over Everton following his head injury on Brazil duty over the international break.

Asked whether Alisson would be ready to return against Fulham, Arne Slot said on Friday: “With Ali, it is simple: it is a concussion and you have to tick all the boxes. The moment he does, he will be in goal. The moment he doesn’t, we are following the protocol.”

Should Alisson again be ruled out, Caoimhin Kelleher will keep his place in goal.

Curtis Jones could continue at right-back after impressing there against Everton, though Conor Bradley could return.

Bradley is back in training after a hamstring injury and is nearing a return to action, having been out since February.

Fulham team news

11:41 , Giuseppe Muro

Kenny Tete could return to the Fulham squad after nearly four months out with a knee injury.

Harry Wilson and Reiss Nelson remain sidelined.
