Arsenal dropped points in the title race after being held to a 1-1 draw against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
With Liverpool’s Merseyside derby being postponed the Gunners had the opportunity to close the gap on the league leaders to just four points but Mikel Arteta’s team failed to take advantage at Craven Cottage. They were put under pressure early in the match as the hosts released Raul Jimenez down the inside right channel and the striker slotted past David Raya with a fine finish.
The Gunners were sloppy and frustrated throughout the first half with Fulham set deep in a low block. William Saliba pulled a goal back after the restart, nodding home from another set piece to inspire hope of a comeback. In the dying stages Bukayo Saka believed he’d completed the comeback but his 88th minute goal was ruled out due to Gabriel Martinelli being offside in the build up.
Arsenal sit second int the table, for now, six points behind Liverpool who also have a game in hand.

Odegaard: “We dominated most of the game"
16:12 , Chris WilsonArsenal captain Martin Odegaard is first to speak to Sky, and he says that his side “dominated most of the game”.
“The first half wasn’t great. We were a bit sloppy and lacked energy and power. The second half was a lot better. It’s frustrating not to win. We were close in the end with the goal.
“They’re a good team. They know how to defend. A solid block. We didn’t do enough today. We have to learn from that and straight back in for the next one.
“We have to focus on ourselves. We don’t care about the other teams [in the title race].
“We did a lot of good things. We have to do more and put the ball in the box more times. Maybe be a bit more direct and aggressive. We could have won it in the end.
“It’s a very long way to go. We’ve said hundreds of times we have to keep going game by game.”

GOAL! And the visitors have surely won it!
It’s a well-worked goal too, with Martinelli picking it up on the left from Timber’s pass. He drives towards the box and clips in a cross towards the back post that Saka tucks away, finishing well.

Fulham v Arsenal
13:50 , Chris WilsonMatch facts
13:45 , Chris WilsonFulham are unbeaten in their last eight league London derbies (W4 D4), their longest such run since a run of nine between February 2000 and September 2001, a streak that was ended by a 3-1 home loss to Arsenal.
Manager Marco Silva has won four of his 10 previous meetings with Arsenal across all competitions (D1 L5) with each victory coming with a different team (Olympiakos, Watford, Everton, Fulham) – he could win back-to-back games against the Gunners for the first time.
Harry Wilson has scored three goals in his last three Premier League London derby appearances, having netted just once in his first 21 such games for Fulham.
Silva: “Let’s hope we can repeat the same"
13:40 , Chris WilsonIn his press conference, Fulham boss Marco Silva pointed out how “no-one surprises anyone in Premier League no more”.
“You know how Mikel and the Arsenal team respect everybody in this competition, they know that it’s really tough to play and win games at this level.
“We started last night, straight away to prepare for the game. Of course all of us, myself, Mikel [Arteta] would prefer to have a proper week to prepare the game on the weekend but we don’t have and we have to be ready for it.
“We know what is going to happen throughout the December month, it’s not going to be the first time for us, in 15 days we are going to have the same again.
“Last season, we did really well in that situation, we scored twice against them in set-pieces last season, and the reality is that they didn’t score [from a set-piece] against us, and let’s hope we can repeat the same.”

Match facts
13:30 , Chris WilsonArsenal have scored at least once in each of their last 18 Premier League games against Fulham, since a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium in February 2009.
The Gunners have won seven of their last eight Premier League London derbies (D1) since losing 2-1 at Fulham on New Year’s Eve last year. The Gunners have scored 5+ goals in four of these eight games, as many times as they had in their previous 113 league London derby matches combined.
Arteta’s side have scored five or more goals in five different away games in all competitions so far in 2024, and they have scored more goals from corners (22) and more goals from set piece situations (30, excluding penalties) than any other side in the Premier League since the start of last season.
Arteta: Arsenal want to be “the kings of everything”
13:25 , Chris WilsonSpeaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta said that his side want to be “the kings of everything”, after being called the kings of corners.
“Best atmosphere and stadium, the best at everything. Before it was we didn’t score enough, we didn’t challenge, we didn’t win big games for 20 years.
“We want to be the best at everything. The best academy, the best individual development for players. We want to be the best of the best. Recruit the best players, the best coaches, that’s the aim.”
On Fulham, he said that the game is a “big challenge, obviously we experienced it last year, we lost five points against them.
“I was being very complementary about them, about the coach and what they do. It’s always a really tough place to go”.
Today’s other fixtures
13:20 , Chris WilsonThere’s another important match taking place today at the top of the table, as Chelsea travel across the capital to face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That one kicks off at 4.30pm, and we’ll have live coverage of that too.
Leicester host Brighton at 2pm as well, while at the other end of the table, Ipswich host a high-flying Bournemouth side.
Match facts
13:15 , Chris WilsonFulham came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in this exact fixture last season – they’ve never won consecutive league games, or even home league games against the Gunners in their history.
Arsenal failed to win either Premier League meeting with Fulham last season (D1 L1) – only between May 2011 and November 2012 (4) have they had a longer winless run against the Cottagers in their league history.
Head-to-head
13:10 , Chris WilsonThese sides have only met 58 times in the past, despite their first match taking place in 1904. In fact, they didn’t meet once between 1968 and 2001!
Overall, Arsenal have won 38 of the meetings, Fulham have won eight, and 12 have ended as draws.
Last season, the match at the Emirates ended as a draw, while Arsenal lost 2-1 in this fixture in December of last year.
Didier Drogba claims to have answer to stop Arsenal scoring from set-pieces
13:05 , Chris WilsonChelsea legend Didier Drogba claims he has the answer on how to stop Arsenal scoring from set-pieces – and it’s remarkably simple.
The Gunners have become set-piece specialists over the past couple of years with no team in Europe having scored more than their 22 goals from corners since the start of last season.
Their 2-0 midweek victory over Manchester United that kept them right in the thick of the Premier League title race saw Jurrien Timber and William Saliba both score from corners. That led Arsenal fans to sing “set-piece again, ole, ole, ole.”

How the table looks
13:00 , Chris WilsonThere were some important results towards the top of the table last night, despite Liverpool’s match with Everton being postponed. Most notably, Manchester City drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace, so they sit in fourth, one point behind Arsenal and Chelsea and eight behind Liverpool.
Arsenal and Chelsea start the day level on points in third and second respectively, with Enzo Maresca’s side ahead on goal difference. They are both seven points behind Liverpool.

Reiss Nelson is injured but can’t face his parent club anyway. Defender Joachim Andersen and suspended midfielder Tom Cairney are far bigger absentees for Fulham in any case. Harrison Reed is also out.

Arsenal’s dangerous weapon provides first real twist in Premier League title race
12:35 , Chris WilsonHere’s Arsenal’s match report from last time out...
A turn of Jurrien Timber’s head, and maybe a first real twist in the title race. Arsenal’s 2-0 win followed enough twists on the night itself. From a position at half-time where it looked like Liverpool would go 11 points clear, Mikel Arteta’s side have instead cut that lead to seven points. It feels like the first time that the leaders have been stripped back in months, while Arsenal are now building a real momentum.
They look like they can start to fly into one of those long unbeaten runs, even if this victory came from some of their earthier qualities. There weren’t quite the multi-angled attacks of the five-goal wins over Sporting and then West Ham United. Ruben Amorim’s Manchester Unitedwouldn’t allow that, for their part. Arsenal instead beat them with what has become a real weapon of choice, as they scored twice from set-pieces. Amorim insisted that that was the sole “difference”.

Fulham vs Arsenal
12:00 , Mike JonesArsenal face fellow London opposition this weekend as they look to keep up the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, but after beating Manchester United in midweek from another couple of set-piece goals, Mikel Arteta will have high hopes of embarking on another winning run.
The Gunners trail the league leaders by a hefty seven points just 14 matches in, and are actually third in the table heading into the weekend, with Chelsea above them on goal difference.
With Manchester City also only two points further back there’s little margin for error in either direction and they face a tricky trip to Fulham now, with the Cottagers in-form and up to sixth after beating Brighton last time out.
Marco Silva’s side have jumped to the head of the queue of the challenging pack outside potential Champions League spots - but consistency is everything for them as only three points separates them all the way back to 13th-placed Manchester United.
