Fulham to run rule over Ayr United youth prospect Dylan Watret

Premier League side Fulham are to run the rule over Ayr's teenage starlet Dylan Watret.

The 16-year-old full back is the latest United Academy prospect to head for a high profile training stint down south.

Watret, who also spent last week at League One side Barnsley, is attracting the eye of top scouts after his emergence on the Somerset scene.

He will now head for a spell with Marco Silva's Cottagers on Monday.

Two appearances off the bench for Lee Bullen's first team have put the schoolkid on the radar across the border.

Watret signed a two and a half year deal at Somerset when inking his first professional contract with the club in February.

The former Bellfield youth, who has been in the United setup since age nine, is now getting the chance to turn heads while gaining vital training experience down south.

It follows Ollie Ecrepont's stint at fellow Premier League side Brentford earlier this season - with the keeper returning to the Bees for a second spell last week.

United managing director, Graeme Mathie, told the Ayrshire Post: "It's further confirmation of the fantastic work being done by everyone within our Academy setup here at Ayr United.

"The key thing for any young player is development and a pathway within the game.

"Much like with Ollie, this is a great experience for Dylan to go and learn and continue his already impressive development which has seen him involved with our first team this season.

"In terms of the bigger picture - for our young players to consistently enter the conversation at some of the country's biggest names is never a bad thing and says a lot for the fabric of our club moving forward."
