Fulham manager Marco Silva charged by FA after post-match outburst following Man United defeat

Marco Silva has been charged by the Football Association over comments he made following Fulham's defeat to Manchester United earlier this month.

The Fulham manager has been accused of improper conduct after he questioned the actions of referee Chris Kavanagh during the FA Cup quarter-final clash.

Silva's charge relates to comments he made in the post-match press conference about officiating decisions in the match and against his side previously by Kavanagh.

Fulham were 20 minutes away from reaching the FA Cup semi-final when they imploded in the space of 40 seconds as Silva, Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic were all sent off.

Willian was shown red for his handball on the line to deny Jadon Sancho a goal, Mitrovic was shown red for his furious protests, and Silva was given his marching orders for leaving his technical area during a VAR check.

After the match, the Portuguese manager hit out at referee Kavanagh for failing to award his side a penalty during the match.

"It's difficult for us to understand," said Silva. "Unfortunately for us we have been very unlucky with Chris Kavanagh this season, many moments.

"Chris was in a game we played away at West Ham where we lost with two clear handballs. We received the apology because of the mistakes. The last game at Leeds in the FA Cup it was him again. And for a game that is the quarter-finals, it's him again."

The FA revealed last week that United have been charged for failing to control their players during the chaotic red card moment against Fulham.

And now, they have also confirmed that charges will be brought against Silva for his comments after the game.

An FA statement read: "Fulham's Marco Silva has been charged with misconduct for comments that he made in a press conference after the FA Cup tie against Manchester United on Sunday 19 March.

"It's alleged that his comments constitute improper conduct in that they imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match official, and/or bring the game into disrepute. The manager has until Wednesday 29 March to provide his response."
