Fulham fan wins £6,000 after club hit 100 goal milestone to clinch Championship title

Fulham's whopping 7-0 win over Luton Town sparked plenty of celebrations at Craven Cottage on Monday evening.

Not only did it deliver the Championship title but it saw Aleksandar Mitrovic notch a brace to take his tally to a staggering 43 league goals for the season. That saw him overtake Guy Whittingham's 42-goal tally for the second tier, set whilst playing for Portsmouth back in the 1992-93 campaign.

But as well as the celebrations for Fulham's players and fans, another individual was lapping up the huge victory. One lucky punter has won a four-figure pay-out following the thumping result. A shared Skybet slip shows someone has scooped a total of £6,020 after putting on a £20 wager for Marco Silva's side to score a century of goals this term.

The odds of the bet were 300/1 meaning a bumper payday for the winner. Skybet tweeted a screenshot of the bet during the match, shortly after Kenny Tete's strike made it 2-0.

They wrote: " Fulham take a 2-0 lead vs Luton to bring up their 100th & 101st league goals. We have one very happy customer right now!"

In reaching the landmark Fulham became the first second tier side to do so since Manchester City racked up 108 goals in the 2001-02 season. That saw them romp to the First Division title. Fulham are on 106 goals ahead of their final game of the season, away at Sheffield United on Saturday.

Boss Silva reflected on a hugely memorable campaign, saying: "The aim to be champions was always inside our dressing room. We knew what we wanted from the first day. It started to feel in October and November that we had been so dominant, we had to finish in this way.

"To score 106 goals is an amazing achievement for us and it's fantastic to see players growing with every match. The record of Mitro is fantastic and it was the best way to finish this game, the second from him."

The exploits of the Cottagers ensured a big payday for the anonymous better but it remains some way off the win experienced by a fellow punter earlier this season.

In March a fan correctly predicted the correct match outcomes across a whopping 18 games on one weekend. It meant they were able to turn £2 into a life-changing £505,984.88. To make things even sweeter, the winning accumulator was only sealed thanks to a staggering four goals inside stoppage time.

And in February there was the story of a granddad scooping a £2,600 win following a mere 3p stake on an accumulator. Janus Wagonback, 85, correctly predicted that ten games would finish in draws - at astonishing odds of 90,000-1. Staff at his local Betfred let him bet just 3p - less than the usual 5p minimum - because he is a regular.
