Fugitive Sex Offender Captured In Washington State Pursuit

Olson apprehended in Burien, Washington after evading capture since 2018.

A fugitive sex offender known as Detroit's 'most wanted' since 2018 has been apprehended in Burien, Washington state, following a pursuit by law enforcement authorities. Cory Alan Olson, who had been using various aliases while evading capture, was finally taken into custody by King County Sheriff's detectives.

Olson, who had been residing in Washington state under the alias 'Randall,' was identified after Kansas authorities alerted officials in Washington about a compromised identity linked to unpaid taxes. Detective Riley Myklebust, who played a crucial role in Olson's capture, expressed the challenges faced during the investigation of identity theft cases.

Olson was discovered by detectives as he was getting into his car at a new job in Burien. Despite attempting to flee, he was apprehended shortly after by Myklebust. Fingerprints confirmed Olson's identity, although he initially refused to admit who he was.

Olson's criminal history includes sexual assault and evading arrest by injuring a deputy in a car crash. He then moved to Washington state, where he faced charges for another sexual assault against a person with special needs.

During his arraignment for identity theft, criminal impersonation, and forgery, Olson's attorney successfully sought to protect his identity, which was granted by the court. Police emphasized the importance of public awareness due to Olson's history of repeated sexual offenses.

Olson, who frequented karaoke bars and portrayed himself as a wealthy investor with a military background, often targeted women with teenage daughters. Detectives noted his presence in various communities, including Issaquah, downtown Seattle, Puyallup, and Olympia, where he used multiple aliases such as Josiah, Payton, and Nikko.

Authorities urge anyone who may have been a victim of Olson's crimes to come forward and contact the police for further assistance.
