Recession fears have left European stock markets deep in the red at the end of a turbulent half year for investors.
Housebuilders are among the FTSE 100 stocks under pressure after Nationwide reported slowing house price growth, with the monthly change of 0.3% down from 0.9% in May.
The building society adds that London is the weakest performing UK region, with annual price growth in the second quarter slowing to 6% for an average £540,399, down from 7.4% the previous quarter.
