House price growth slowed in January as transaction volumes show signs of returning towards pre-Covid levels, lender Halifax said today.
The monthly rise of 0.3% to a new record average high of £276,759 compares with gains of more than 1% in the four previous months. Halifax managing director Russell Galley said: “Following the peak activity of 2021, transaction volumes are returning to more normal levels.”
Today's stock market session is another positive one for London investors after stronger-than-expected figures from the US jobs market boosted confidence on Friday. Oil prices, meanwhile, have eased slightly after topping $93 a barrel earlier.
