Phoenix Ikner allegedly used a firearm belonging to his mother, a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff's Office, to kill two individuals and injure five others in a mass shooting at Florida State University on Thursday.
The Tallahassee Police Department revealed during a press conference that the 20-year-old shooter's weapon was recovered at the scene and belonged to his mother, Jessica, who has been with the sheriff's office for more than 18 years.
"She has a tremendous job that she's done. Her service to this community has been exceptional," the department revealed in a clip circulating on X. "Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons and that was one of the weapons that was found at the scene."

Officials announced they were continuing their investigation into how the FSU student obtained the weapon and whether he had access to others. Ikner opened fire on the FSU campus, killing two non-students.
Ikner was shot before he was apprehended because he "did not comply with commands," Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell stated elsewhere in the press conference. The alleged shooter is currently in unknown condition at a local hospital, per CNN.
