FSU football runs past Duquesne, 47-7

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State scored on its first six possessions before cruising to a 47-7 win over Duquesne Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles accounted for more than 600 yards of total offense for the first time since 2016.

Standouts

FSU (1-0, 0-0 ACC)

— Jordan Travis: The quarterback went 11-of-15 passing for 207 yards while adding 11 yards rushing, including a 5-yard TD to start the scoring for Florida State. He led the Seminoles to scores on their first six offensive possessions before being replaced early in the second half.

— Treshaun Ward: The running back had a career-high in rushing yards (127) and touchdowns (2) while averaging 9.1 yards on his 14 carries.

— Jammie Robinson: The defensive back led the team with four tackles and two pass breakups as the FSU defense held Duquesne to 71 passing yards.

DUQUESNE (0-1, 0-0 NEC)

— Joe Mischler: The quarterback finished 7-of-17 passing for 71 yards, but his 22-yard TD strike to Abdul Janneh in the third quarter gave the Dukes their first points of the game.

— Ryan Webb: The defensive back picked off a Tate Rodemaker pass in the third quarter and returned it 50 yards, setting up Duquesne for its first score of the game.

Noteworthy

— Rain and lighting in the Tallahassee area forced a 90-minute weather delay, pushing the kickoff time from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

— This was the first season-opening win for Florida State since the Seminoles rallied to beat Ole Miss at Camping World Stadium on Sept. 5, 2016.

— The Seminoles had three tailbacks rush for 100 yards in a game for the first time since 1985.

— FSU finished 6 of 7 in the red zone against the Dukes.

— Treshaun Ward (2), Lawrance Toafili (1), Trey Benson (1), Jordan Travis (1) and Rodney Hill (1) all had rushing touchdowns for FSU. It’s the first time the Seminoles have had six TDs in a game since they scored six against Duke in 2020.
