FSG need to spend £300m after Liverpool's season summed up by comical moment
John Aldridge reflects on Saturday's stalemate with Crystal Palace during part one of his weekly Liverpool column.
Like every Liverpool fan, I was expecting a reaction from the Reds on Saturday evening on the back of last Tuesday’s humbling at the hands of Real Madrid. What transpired at Selhurst Park was far from that.
It was a lacklustre, lifeless performance against Crystal Palace. The only real good thing was we got a clean sheet, which is three in a row now in the Premier League. It wasn’t a Liverpool performance at all and was summed up by the free-kick taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold during the first half, which Jordan Henderson got in the way of when it looked to heading goalbound. If he scores that, we may have gone on to win the game.

Darwin Nunez was sorely missed in the final third, you could see the difference with him not being in the attack. In his absence, Diogo Jota struggled to make his mark and looked a bit rusty having been out for some time. Luis Diaz’s return can’t come soon enough, we could really do with him as another option in the final third.
It is going to take a lot of work during the summer to fix this, there simply has to be a squad rebuild. We will need at least £300million to bring in the players we need, meaning it will then come down to the capital the owners have and whether or not it's possible.

Why Liverpool vs Wolves and Arsenal vs Everton games are not on TV in UK
A busy week for Merseyside football sees both Everton and Liverpool in action on Wednesday evening, but fans hoping to catch either game on TV will be disappointed.
Liverpool play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers for the second time this year, having also been drawn against them in the FA Cup, knowing that an Anfield win can edge them up to sixth in the table, keeping their slim Champions League qualification hopes alive.
The Reds may have suffered a humbling 5-2 home defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League last week, but they have not conceded a goal in their last three Premier League matches and will be hoping to extend that run with a victory at Anfield against Julen Lopetegui's side.
But if you were hoping to see the game live on TV in the UK, then unfortunately you are all out of luck thanks to a quirk in English football's broadcasting rules.
