FSG sent blunt Liverpool transfer message as number of signings needed clear

More than 4,300 Liverpool fans do not trust Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to sufficiently back Jurgen Klopp as the German looks to revamp his squad following an underwhelming 2022/2023 campaign.

Having missed out on Champions League football for the first time since 2016, the Reds have already added both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai after seeing long-serving stars such as Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita depart at the end of their contracts.

However, it is somewhat apparent that further additions are a must. But it appears that Liverpool fans do not have complete faith in FSG's cost-effective recruitment style when it comes to sourcing new signings.

53% of supporters that answered the ECHO Big Liverpool Forum, which equates to a total figure of 4,363, told us that they do not trust FSG to back Klopp sufficiently in his attempts to build a winning team. It should be noted, though, that 47% (3892) do believe that the ownership group led by John W. Henry and Tom Werner can help the former Dortmund boss deliver even more silverware to the club.

There was significantly more support for striker Darwin Nunez from those that took part in the forum. Signed for a whopping fee of from Benfica last summer, the Uruguayan could manage to score just nine Premier League goals in his debut campaign and took time to adapt to English football. Although Nunez, undoubtedly, displayed flashes of immense talent that suggested why the Portuguese giants demanded such a big fee for his services. At just 24, he has plenty of time to repay that faith.

83% of fans that took part in the forum believe that the potential club-record signing will eventually come good at Anfield, meaning Nunez has 6,898 Liverpool fans willing him to succeed on Merseyside. Only a small portion of 17% believe he will flop.

Elsewhere, 7, 704 (92%) of fans will be glad to see the arrivals of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai after they stated the midfield department should be Liverpool's biggest priority in the transfer window.

Nevertheless, 76% of fans are not satisfied yet. They believe that the Reds must sign between four and seven players this summer. The likes of Romeo Lavia, Levi Colwill and Kephram Thuram have recently been linked with moves to Anfield.

While there was an absence of complete confidence placed in FSG throughout the survey, Liverpool fans do have faith in new Sporting Director Jorg Schmadtke. The 59-year-old recently replaced Julian Ward and 80% (6495) of supporters trust him to help get the Reds' transfer business right.
