The signing of a new midfielder is being viewed, with increasing desperation, as the magic fix-all for Liverpool's season.
Barely a Reds game passes now without demands for the club to enter into the transfer market to bolster their ranks. The repeated claims are entirely understandable, of course, with Jurgen Klopp's men struggling to muster a sustained push for the top four.

The names have continued to swirl around the transfer rumour mill in recent weeks. From Sofyan Amrabat and Enzo Fernandez to Moises Caicedo and, of course, Jude Bellingham; Liverpool's name has been linked to a whole host of midfielders.
Klopp, whose faith in his own players has always been stronger than those who regularly clamour for new blood, has previously spoken glowingly about the qualities that exist within his midfield ranks. Injuries and form, however, have eroded the wider belief and with Liverpool now seven points off fourth in the table, fears are growing.

Liverpool have plenty of time to stew over their 3-1 humbling at the hands of Brentford before returning to action against Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday.
With their cup defence getting underway at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp will hope it can provide a welcome distraction to the Reds’ recent failings in the Premier League as they look to play their way back into form.
New signing Cody Gakpo is in line to make his Liverpool debut against the West Midlands outfit, but it would be a surprise if he is the only change given the Reds’ dismal showing in the capital.
