Froy Gutierrez, known for his role in The Strangers, has confirmed that fans can expect to see him in more installments of the horror franchise. The Strangers trilogy was filmed in Slovakia over a 52-day shoot, with all three films being shot interchangeably to expand on the world introduced in the original 2008 home invasion film.
The latest installment, directed by Renny Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, stars Gutierrez and Madelaine Petsch as a couple who find themselves terrorized by three masked strangers after their car breaks down during a cross-country trip.
In the first movie, both Gutierrez's character, Ryan, and Petsch's character, Maya, face life-threatening situations at the hands of the masked intruders. Gutierrez has confirmed his involvement in the entire trilogy, while Petsch's participation was also previously announced.
Gutierrez shared insights into the physically demanding nature of filming the horror scenes, which involved running, crawling, and enduring various injuries. He emphasized the importance of embodying the characters' fear and vulnerability to enhance the authenticity of the terror portrayed on screen.
One notable aspect of Gutierrez's character, Ryan, is his struggle with asthma, which adds an additional layer of tension to the storyline. The actor humorously referred to this plot point as 'Chekhov's asthma,' highlighting the significance of this detail in the narrative.
Gutierrez also discussed the dynamic between Ryan and Maya, noting how their characters challenge traditional horror film tropes. While Maya is portrayed as headstrong and resourceful, Ryan exhibits vulnerability and sensitivity, showcasing a different side of masculinity in the genre.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 was released in theaters on May 17, offering audiences a thrilling and intense cinematic experience. With Gutierrez's confirmation of his continued involvement in the franchise, fans can look forward to seeing more of his character in the upcoming installments of The Strangers.
