Police have issued an appeal for information after the front door of a home was set alight in Leigh.

The arson attack happened in the early hours of the morning on Saturday (September 19) on Maple Crescent. Police said four people approached the house and set the front door alight.

They then fled the scene in a silver estate-style car, officers added. The occupants inside the house were able to escape uninjured.

Police are now asking anyone who has any information about the incident - which happened at around 12.40am - to get in touch. Detective Sergeant Will Hardman, of GMP Wigan’s CID, said: "This must have been frightening for the occupants of the property who, thankfully, managed to make their way to safety.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and identify those responsible. Anyone with information should contact ourselves or Crimestoppers."

Anyone with information should contact GMP via 0161 856 3034 quoting 99 17/09/22. Information can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
