From triumphant Lionesses to Harrison Ford snakes: This week’s good news

It’s time for the weekend! The working week has drawn to a close and the sun icon has finally returned to our weather apps (albeit behind a cloud but you’ve got to take whatever victories you can).

There’s no better way to wind down than tallying up some of the funniest and most endearing stories from the past seven days — so let’s go!

The Big Ben bust-up

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 29 days, England’s Lionesses have been storming their way through the Women’s World Cup and will be playing in the final against Spain on Sunday.

Their latest victory was against Australia on Wednesday and, while Brits were rejoicing in the streets, Aussie fans seemed to have revenge on their mind.

Many took out their frustrations on none other than British icon Big Ben, flooding the London clock’s Google Reviews with one-star ratings and comments such as: “Could use a bit of a clean up, like the english soccer team, go tillies!!”

It can make for a very entertaining read, so at least they’ll have something to keep themselves busy with on Sunday.

Who said you couldn’t drink a roast?

I’m sure we’ve all thought at some point in our lives: I sure do wish my pint tasted a bit more like gravy. Well, Morrisons has answered our prayers. Now you can wash down your roast with... another roast.

In a collaboration for the ages, independent brewery Northern Monk and Aunt Bessie’s have released a new four-pack of beers with new flavours: Roast Dinner Brown Ale, Apple Crumble and Custard Pale Ale, Jam Roly Poly and Custard Pale Ale, and a Sticky Toffee Pudding and Custard Porter. Yummy!

Morrisons’ buying manager of craft beer and bottled ale, Lewis Gartland, said of the launch: “We’re thrilled to again be offering customers the chance to challenge their taste buds and sample fantastic innovation with three new flavours.”

Challenge is one word for it.

“Why’d it have to be snakes?”

Unlike everyone’s favourite professor of archaeology, Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford seems to be quite the fan of snakes. And, much to his delight, he had one named after him this week.

The “Tachymenoides harrisonfordi” was discovered in Peru, and was named in honour of the actor’s environmental work.

Ford told Conservation International: “The snake’s got eyes you can drown in, and he spends most of the day sunning himself by a pool of dirty water — we probably would’ve been friends in the early ’60s.”

He later went on to say that the experience was “humbling” and the snake’s discovery was “a reminder that there’s still so much to learn about our wild world — and that humans are one small part of an impossibly vast biosphere.”

Do you get deja-Blue?

Olivia Rodrigo has temporarily ditched her iconic purple brand for blue after she was spotted watching Chelsea at Stamford Bridge during their first Premier League game of the season against Liverpool.

The Drivers License singer posed with defender Ben Chilwell at the London football ground, who also gave her a number eight football shirt embossed with her last name.

She later took the football club’s Instagram story, saying: “I am at the Bridge for my very first football game. I had the best time and I’m so happy that I got to come.”
