From the Cotswolds to Miami: inside the many homes of the Beckhams

In 2023, Netflix’s Beckham documentary gave viewers what we were waiting for: a glimpse into one of the family’s many luxurious homes.

We were treated to shots of the Beckhams’ apiary, rustic kitchen, wardrobe – and even their private football pitch.

The couple met in 1997 and as their careers skyrocketed they began to accumulate an extensive property portfolio all over the globe.

From their Holland Park mansion to their recently purchased Miami villa, here’s where the Beckhams live.

Cotswolds estate

“I wanted a place where we could escape,” says David Beckham in the Netflix documentary. “As soon as I get up into the countryside, I normally get into my whole country get-up."

Parts of the documentary were shot at the Beckhams’ Grade II-listed property near the Cotswolds town of Chipping Norton.

They bought the property — then a cluster of separate farm buildings — for £6.15 million in 2016, according to Land Registry records, and converted them into a luxurious, Soho House-inspired home.

Over the years, the Beckhams have made a series of upgrades to the property, adding a new driveway and gates, additional outbuildings, a kitchen garden with raised beds, a loft extension for a new home office and a security hut.

There is now a state-of-the-art treehouse in the garden, a tennis court, football pitch orchard, wine cellar, handcrafted Estonian sauna and an apiary. What doesn’t this house have?

The documentary opens with a shot of David clad in full beekeeping suit —embroidered with his initials— walking across his 10 acres of grounds to the apiary.

“There’s a bit of an argument in the house at the moment,” he explains as he fills a jar with golden honey. “I think it should be Golden Bees. Victoria likes D.B.’s Sticky Stuff.”

The documentary also revealed David’s house pride – and, famously, his need to keep his home spotless.

“I clean it so well, I'm not sure it's actually appreciated so much by my wife, in all honesty,” he says. And as for his candles: “I can’t stand smoke around the side of a candle. Every night before bed I'll go around every candle, cut the wick, and make sure it's clean."

The Beckhams continue to make improvements to their country estate. Their most recent planning application, submitted this month, is to build a barn to store hay and agricultural equipment.

So far, this has drawn one objection: “I must object because this is just the latest in a long line of applications to build new structures on this land, plus a giant lake. Why do famous people move out to the country and then clutter up their land with endless buildings and make silly alterations? It makes no sense.”

Built in 1862, this grand Grade II-listed home in Holland Park is the Beckhams’ primary residence.

The family bought the house for £31.5 million in 2013, spent three years renovating it and moved in in 2016.

Long-standing friend Kelly Hoppen was initially engaged as the designer, having already worked on their Los Angeles home. Celebrity designer Rose Uniacke later took over.

The mansion now boasts a vast basement with a spa, gym and indoor pool, as well as a home cinema, wine cellar, catwalk-style runway, electric clothes rack and nail bar.

The couple’s Instagram posts show large, feature fireplaces, a marble tiled entrance hallway and panelled walls. In total, the renovation is said to have cost £8 million.

Architectural Digest reported that the house was designed around the Beckhams’ four children, combining Victoria Beckham’s love of monochrome with a simplistic, neutral palette.

As well as its expansive main house, the property has a two-storey mews house, which the Beckhams also renovated.

In Hoppen’s original design statement, she proposed to refit the bathroom and kitchen, create a secure new storeroom and to “raise the property to a better standard, primarily by refreshing the interior design and decoration, and also updating outdated or substandard items.”

The process, however, has not been without controversy. In 2015 when they applied for planning permission to add the gym and wine cellar, a neighbour argued that the project would harm the “historic character” of the street, and would mean months of “noise, vibration, dirt, pollution, and dust”.

Planning for most of the Beckhams’ work was approved with conditions intended to safeguard the property’s historic interest, including the right for it to be monitored by the council.

Miami residences

The Beckhams’ latest acquisition is a waterfront Miami mansion, which they purchased for $72.25 million (£60.2m) last year.

Overlooking Biscayne Bay, the nine-bedroom house is a modern, glassy construction by Choeff Levy Fischman Architecture and Design.

Set up for indoor-outdoor living, the house has floor-to-ceiling windows and what appears to be a wraparound terrace, with further terraces on the upper levels and rooftop.

Photos show an infinity pool at the rear of the house, as well as water features like an indoor courtyard pond.

These make the “entire house look like it’s floating,” Raphael Levy told Mansion Global. “The water appears to continue through the house and into the pool deck, which then continues into the bay.”

The 12,552 square foot property also boasts a spa, gym, outdoor kitchen, walk-in wardrobe and home cinema, as well as 124 feet of waterfront.

The Beckhams bought the house from property developer Niklas de la Motte, The Real Deal reports.

They also own a penthouse apartment in the Zaha Hadid-designed One Thousand Museum, which they bought for $24 million (£18m) in 2020.

According to Sotheby’s International Realty, the tower offers residents a “six-star lifestyle”, with more than 30,000 square feet of elevated amenities, including a private rooftop helipad.

Since 2018, David Beckham has been the founder and co-owner of Inter Miami CF.

In 2009, the Beckhams purchased an apartment in Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. They reportedly paid around $5 million (£3.76m) for it.

Residents at the tower have access to skyline views over Dubai, as well as the world’s highest outdoor observatory.

There are four swimming pools —one on the roof— a four-storey gym, tennis court, spa, rooftop lounge, cigar lounge and library.

The Beckhams previously owned a villa in Palm Jumeirah, but reportedly gifted it to Victoria’s parents before buying the Burj Khalifa apartment.

The Beckhams previously owned a mansion in Beverly Hills, which they bought for $18.2 million (£13.7m) in 2007, after David signed for L.A. Galaxy. They are reported to have sold the Mediterranean-inspired villa for $33 million in 2018.

The Beckhams also owned a six-bedroom holiday home in Provence, which they renovated themselves. They put it on the market for £2.4 million in 2016.
