MIAMI— The news that Pedro Pascal is the new Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in Marvel's upcoming "The Fantastic Four" surprised... nobody. His involvement with the upcoming Marvel project was one of Hollywood's worst-kept secrets.
Still, Marvel Studios' Valentine's Day announcement was a treat for fans, revealing a vintage-styled illustration of Pascal alongside his co-stars Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, slated for a July 25, 2025 release. This highly anticipated project, rumored to have been set decades in the past, aligns with Pascal's penchant for diverse and challenging roles.
But "The Fantastic Four" is just the tip of the iceberg for Pascal's packed schedule. He's set to appear in "The Uninvited," premiering at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival on March 11, 2024. This project showcases his ability to delve into complex, nuanced characters.
Pascal's star power continues to shine in "Gladiator," with Paul Mescal, set for an opening on November 22, 2024. This Paramount project, a sequel to the 2001 Oscar winner, sees Pascal stepping into a world of ancient Rome, a testament to his versatility as an actor.
On the small screen, Pascal returns as Joel Miller in "The Last of Us Season 2," filming for one episode. This role, which has garnered him Emmy, and Golden Globes nominations, illustrates his capacity to bring depth and humanity to characters in a post-apocalyptic world.
He is also slotted for a fourth season of his mega-successful "The Mandalorian," but first the actor is also returning to his beloved role in the film "The Mandalorian & Grogu," with production starting in June 2024
Adding to his eclectic mix of projects, Pascal is filming "Tropico" in São Luís, Maranhão. This steamy thriller, set in northern Brazil, casts him as a spy entangled in a complex web of romance and deception, starts filming on April 18.
In a different vein, Pascal stars in the TV series "My Dentist's Murder Trial," a gripping tale based on the real-life story of Dr. Gilberto Núñez, accused of the death of his best friend. This project highlights Pascal's skill in portraying real-life, layered characters.
Riding high on his success, Pascal also becomes part of the horror genre with "Weapons," a New Line movie from the team behind "Barbarian." The script, likened to Paul Thomas Anderson's "Magnolia," promises a multi-threaded narrative, a format well-suited to Pascal's range.
Not slowing down
Pascal's journey from playing Javier Peña in "Narcos" to Oberyn Martell in "Game of Thrones" has been a showcase of his dynamic talent. With upcoming roles in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" and J.C. Chandor's "Triple Frontier," Pascal is not slowing down.
In addition to these projects, Pascal may join the cast of Celine Song's rom-com "The Materialists," alongside Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, further diversifying his impressive portfolio.
