A shocking video has captured the moment terrified residents spotted a huge crocodile roaming through their town's flooded streets.
Residents in the Shivpuri district of India's Madhya Pradesh region got a fright when the 8ft reptile swam past their homes yesterday (August 14), later hiding inside one of them.
Authorities were contacted and a rescue team from the nearby Madhav National Park captured the crocodile.
Officials tied the beast up with ropes and used sticks to pin it to the ground.
A video of the terrifying scene shows the crocodile wading slowly through the water, as horrified onlookers scream and shout among themselves.
A second clip then shows the aftermath of the incident, where the crocodile lay motionless after it had been tied up.
The rescue took an hour, and it was later released into the nearby Sankhya Sagar Lake.
It is believed to have entered the street through a flooded drain. There were no injuries as the crocodile did not appear to attack any of the residents.
India's most common species of crocodile is the mugger crocodile, which can grow as long as 14 feet.
Meanwhile a second, rarer species - the saltwater crocodile - is more likely to be found in the east of the country.
It comes as last month, a 14-year-old girl was killed by a savage crocodile while out swimming with her friends.
Intan Maria Sari was taking a dip in the Gansal river when she was mauled to death in Riau, Indonesia, on July 12.
The teen and her friends were washing their clothes in the water before diving in to play, according to local reports.
Her terrified pals then shouted for help and watched helplessly as she disappeared underwater before the rescuers arrived.
Her body was later found half-a-mile away from the scene where she went missing, with animal bite marks on her waist.
