'Frightened' - Ian Wright makes major Liverpool admission with Man City claim

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has explained why he is “frightened” about the prospect of Liverpool facing his old club. The Reds take on the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium this evening in the Premier League, with a big three points on the line.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are four points adrift of leaders Manchester City in the table with a game in hand, and victory over Arsenal would narrow that gap to just one point. Pep Guardiola’s outfit were held to a goalless draw with Crystal Palace on Monday night to hand Liverpool a boost going into tonight’s fixture.

Liverpool go into the match in the capital on the back of a comfortable win over Brighton at the weekend. That victory on the south coast was their eighth league win in a row, while Arsenal have managed five on the spin in the top flight.

Speaking ahead of the clash at the Emirates, Wright has explained why Man City’s draw with Palace will give the Liverpool players extra motivation against Arsenal. The former striker went on to express his ‘worry’ over his old club taking on the Reds.

“If I’m a Liverpool player after watching that game, that would have been brilliant to watch. Because now that game’s finished, I would be ready to go,” said Wright, on his Ringer FC podcast .

“If I’m a Liverpool player now I’m so hyped for the Arsenal game, which has made me frightened,” said Wright.

“I have to be frightened, I’m worried!

“Anything apart from a loss is a win for Arsenal. A Liverpool team coming to the Emirates knowing that a win takes them to the place that they need to be against City.

“Because then, City will be watching that going ‘God, they are here’.”
