Friends turned drunken plans into a reality

Mercutio's Bar and Bistro is the new venue with glowing reviews and humble beginnings.

Following their grand opening just a few weeks ago, Mercutio's Bar and Bistro has already gone down a storm with Prescot locals. The masterminds behind the business, Joshua Campbell, 30, and Daniel Fitzpatrick, 31, spent months getting their hands dirty in order to perfect the venue: filing, building and piecing together the restaurant we see today.

By day, the pals of almost a decade are floorers, a career they still maintain despite owning Mercutio's. It was after a drunken conversation together they decided to take the leap into hospitality and begin a new journey in the restaurant business.

Joshua told the Echo: "We've talked about it loads and decided to go for it. We went for a scout to find a venue and ended up buying a café. We found the place we have now and spent a couple of months making it ours. Daniel and I did 90% of the work apart from the electrics and some plastering but we physically put the bar together ourselves.

"We were getting in at 4am and going to our normal jobs as floor layers, coming back home at around 4pm, and we did that for roughly five months. It was a lot of hard work. There was a lot to do behind the scenes but it was all worth it."

Outsourcing the labour wasn't an option as Daniel and Joshua wanted to keep costs to a minimum while maintaining a personal touch. Joshua added: "We just looked around and thought, 'What can we do ourselves?' It helped us financially too but we enjoyed it, we enjoyed the challenge."

All of the hard work paid off as Mercutio's opened to fanfare from the community. Offering a range of classic cocktails, a delicious menu, and live music, Prescott residents and those coming from afar have given nothing but glowing reviews.

Joshua said: "Everyone's feedback has been amazing. Customers are saying it's their new place to go and they love all of the food. It makes us feel like all of the hard work has paid off and that's something we wanted to do. We wanted somewhere for everyone to go and enjoy themselves and to have a good time.

"It was a big risk but it was worth it. We're very happy. There's still loads of work to do but everything's great so far and we're happy to be on our feet."
