Friends took cocktail of drugs on train before one found dead in hotel room

A chronic drug user was found dead a day after taking a cocktail of substances on a train, an inquest heard. Michelle Toth, a chronic drug user, travelled from Huddersfield to Blackpool with a friend in March this year, taking a mixture of drugs before passing out in a hotel and not waking up again.

She travelled to Blackpool with a friend On March 25 this year, taking a 'large quantity' of drugs including Xanax, pregabalin, heroin, methadone and crack cocaine during the three hour trip. When the arrived at the seaside town they went straight to their hotel and went to bed.

An inquest at Blackpool Town Hall found that the 37-year-old had a 'chronic addiction to drugs'. Her cause of death was given as multiple drugs toxicity.

Assistant Coroner Patrick Cassidy said: "Michelle unfortunately had a chronic addiction to drugs. On the evening of March 25 Michelle and her friend got the train from Huddersfield to Blackpool with a view to returning home on Monday.

"While on the train [her friend] states they had taken a large quantity of drugs, she cannot recall the amounts but said they took Xanax, pregabalin and methadone as well as smoking crack cocaine and heroin. They arrived in Blackpool at 3pm and upon arriving in their hotel room they passed out. The deceased did not leave her bedroom thereafter.

"[Her friend] wakes up at various stages but said Michelle stayed on the bed and it is not until early afternoon on the Saturday that Helen realises that Michelle cannot be roused and contacts the hotelier Mr Hanson and his wife. Life was confirmed extinct at 2.45pm."
