More homes will be built in a new estate in a Nottinghamshire village. Rushcliffe Borough Council has approved plans to increase the size of the 185-home Lacefields development in Ruddington, off the A60 Loughborough Road.
Developer William Davis will now be able to build 24 more properties as part of the second phase of the estate. The land was released from the greenbelt when it was included in the council's local plan for new housing.
Locals welcomed the new homes, expressing a hope the future residents would fit into their friendly community. Bhavna Passon, 34, who moved to Ruddington from London, said: “As long as it stays as it is, the types of families and people moving in. There’s a few young couples, young families and young professionals.

"I don’t mind as long as it’s the same community we've got here. I think it will be nice. It’s very peaceful.
"People are very considerate and polite. It’s just really nice and no one really bothers anyone.”
A resident called Brionie, a 27-year-old recruiter, said: “I think they were very open in the beginning of the plans. We knew about the plans and how many they were building. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It would be great if we had a few more facilities.
"The traffic in the village is probably my issue. I don’t see any issue at the village getting bigger and bigger - it’s a popular area. It’s great here - we’ve built a community together.”
The site is currently a partially overgrown field, dominated by trees and an overgrown hedgerow along the western edge. According to the developer, the layout would create areas of public open space.
Jan Porter, who has lived on the estate for around nine months, added: “Everybody knew the phases of the development. It has been here since we looked at the estate..”
The new homes will be surrounded to the north, south and east by the rest of the housing estate and to the western boundary by a care home. In a planning document, Pegasus Group, on behalf of William Davis, said: "The proposals respect the character of Ruddington and move the area towards a sustainable future through an increase in housing choice.
"William Davis and the design team have incorporated pre-application advice from Rushcliffe Borough Council into the development proposals ensuring they are a positive addition to Ruddington. The site forms a logical extension to the existing urban area.
"It has a sustainable location being situated within walking distance of local facilities, recreation spaces and public transport links. The development positively addresses the site constraints and successfully integrates with the urban edge and landscape surroundings."
