Shoppers are being urged to check their cupboards for a specific brand of pie following a recent food safety alert.
The Fray Bentos chicken pies have been urgently recalled as they could contain small pieces of plastic.
Baxters Food group, which owns the pie brand, has pulled the 'Just Chicken' pies from store shelves following an alert from The Food Standards Agency (FSA.)
Sharing the alert to Facebook, the FSA wrote: "14 April 2022: Baxters UK Food Group Ltd recalls Fray Bentos Just Chicken Pie because it may contain small pieces of plastic.
"The possible presence of small pieces of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat."
Fray Bentos Just Chicken Pies that have been affected are the 425g product with the batch code L079T. The time code is anywhere between 0600 - 0822. No other products from the brand have been affected.
Customers are being urged to check the details of any Fray Bentos pies they have bought recently. If they match the affected batch code and time code, then they are urged to dispose of the product immediately.
The popular chicken pies can be found in major supermarkets such as Asda, Tesco and Iceland.
Point of sale notices have been issued any retailer that currently sells the product, explaining to customers why the pie has been recalled and what they can do next.
Customers who have purchased the affected pies should contact Baxters Food Group Ltd customer care team on 0800 389 8389, or customercare.fraybentos@baxters.com.
