'Fresh weaponry' - National media react to huge Arsenal win vs Fulham amid Gabriel Jesus boost

While Leandro Trossard may have led Arsenal to an emphatic win over Fulham, Gabriel Jesus' return from injury stole the headlines. The Brazil international suffered medial ligament damage against Cameroon at the World Cup and later returned to London to undergo surgery on his knee.

Jesus was integral to the foundations of Mikel Arteta's title charge and, at first, it seemed as if his absence would see the Gunners dreams of Premier League silverware end. But, between Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, they've managed to shoulder the 25-year-old's role to excellent effect.

With the Brazilian now back in contention for a place in the starting line-up, the north London outfit have a plethora of attacking options. As the final weeks of the season approach, Jesus' return has handed Arsenal a huge boost in their efforts to lift the Premier League.

So, with that being said, football.london has had a look at what the national media made of Arsenal's win over Fulham.

The Mirror

In the Mirror, it was said that Arsenal are continuing to show signs of improvement as they charge towards the Premier League title. Dan March wrote: "Set-pieces proved to be Arsenal's Achilles' heel on Thursday night, but the Gunners opening goal at Craven Cottage came from the same medium.

"Crucially, Arsenal were just as good at defending set-pieces as they were attacking them to thwart a Fulham team that boasts a number of aerial threats. Arteta will be enthused, rather than relieved, after he slammed the Gunners' defensive frailties in midweek. The onus is now on his side to prove this wasn't a one-off."

The Telegraph

As for The Telegraph, they were quick to heap praise on Arsenal's 'astute' transfer business following Trossard's masterclass. And, with Gabriel Jesus back from injury, Arteta has a good headache in the final weeks of the campaign.

"So astute has been Arsenal’s transfer business in the past couple of years it is difficult to highlight who has been the best signing but the initial £21 million deal to bring in Leandro Trossard may prove to be the most shrewdly opportunistic," The Telegraph wrote.

"A hat-trick of assists for the Belgium forward against Fulham – the first time in Premier League history an away player has achieved that in a first-half – helped turn a potentially fraught London derby into a stroll by the River Thames.

"With Gabriel Jesus finally back, after his 120-day lay-off from a knee injury, and joyfully returning as a second-half substitute, Mikel Arteta’s attacking options are about to increase at a crucial period. There is fresh weaponry."

The Guardian

In the Guardian, they focused on how the return of Jesus will give the Gunners players and fans a huge psychological boost in the title race. The article wrote: "That is hardly to say Jesus has not been missed.

"The appetite for news of his comeback had been voracious all week; when Arsenal travelled to Lisbon for their Europa League last-16 tie on Wednesday breathless rumours of his presence in the party swept social media, neither the club nor Arteta doing anything to dampen them. In fact he was tucked away at London Colney limbering up for this one, before emerging from the bus here to a palpable buzz.

"When he replaced Leandro Trossard 13 minutes from time, Arsenal’s fans maintained one long, unbroken note before breaking into cheers when he crossed the line. It feels gratifying they are not lost on those who watch regularly."
