Fresh wave of Russian air strikes on cities in Ukraine

A fresh wave of strikes is being reported in several cities across Ukraine on Tuesday, a day after “Kamikaze drone strikes” on targets including the capital Kyiv.

Explosions have been reported by authorities in Kryvyi Ri, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Mykolaiv, and in northern Kyiv.

In the southern city of Mykolaiv, a missile has totally destroyed one wing of an apartment building in the downtown area, leaving a massive crater, according to reports.

A fire crew pulled the dead body of a man from the rubble, a witness told Reuters.

Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in northern Kyiv on Tuesday, causing several explosions and sending smoke rising over the city, Ukrainian officials and witnesses said.

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the presidential office, said there had been three Russian strikes on an unspecified energy facility. The city mayor said the attack was on “critical infrastructure” and emergency workers were heading there.

In Dnipro, strikes targeted energy infrastructure, causing “serious damage” according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of the Ukrainian president’s office.

The head of Kryvyi Rih’s military administration, Oleksandr Vilkul, posted on Telegram confirming an explosion in the city.

“Around 6.30 in the morning, the occupation-terrorist forces struck the northern part of Kryvyi Rih. As for the consequences of the explosions, I will not comment on the situation yet,” he wrote. “The anxiety continues. Repeated attacks are possible - you are in shelters during an air alert.”

The head of the Kharkiv regional military administration announced on Tuesday morning that Russia is launching strikes on the city of Kharkiv, as well as the region. He ordered residents to remain in shelters, saying:“Attention, residents of Kharkiv and the region: the Russian occupiers are striking. Stay in shelters!”

It comes after Russia attacked Kyiv with nearly 30 “kamikaze” drones on Monday morning, killing four people, including a pregnant woman and her partner.

Those attacks came exactly one week after Russia unleashed its heaviest aerial bombardment of Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities since the start of the war – also during morning rush hour – in response to the bombing of the bridge between Russia and Crimea.

Russia’s defence ministry said it had carried out a “massive” attack on military targets and energy infrastructure across Ukraine using high-precision weapons.
