Fresh plans lodged to build more than 700 new homes in Derry

Plan to build hundreds of new homes on the outskirts of Derry city centre have been submitted for planning approval.

Braidwater Limited has officially lodged the plans to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

The proposals outline the want to build a major mixed-use development comprising 740 dwellings consisting of a mix of social, affordable and private housing.

The development, if approved, will also see the part delivery of High Street to include a retail store, cafe, restaurant, retail units, office units, work units, gym, and a community centre.

The plans will see the development built on the Skeoge Roundabout, to the west of Buncrana Road.

The developers have also committed to re-aligning the Coshquin and Whitehouse Road if the proposals are successful.

It comes after a number of developments have been built in the Skeoge area over the last decade.

It's understood that the development would see an additional £100million, bringing it to £450million investment by Braidwater to the site to be known as The Cashel.

The plan is part of wider plans by the Braidwater group which represents one of the most significant investments in the north-west in recent years.

The construction of the site will also see the creation of 250 jobs, while economically benefiting building suppliers in the local area.

Located in Eglinton, The Braidwater Group has over 40 years’ experience in the industry and is one of Northern Ireland’s leading housebuilders.

Vincent Bradley, development director of The Braidwater Group, previously said: “We are excited to announce our plans for the largest housing development to be built in Northern Ireland in the last 10 years."

Overview of the entire development proposed to planners (Braidwater Group)

"This will bring a significant economic impact to the North West. The fact that this will represent an extension to our home city of Derry and that it will address an area of high housing demand makes us even more ambitious to deliver it

“As with all of our projects, we are bringing forward plans which encourage people who live on the site to live well, with all aspects of lifestyle catered for in high quality and well thought out way."
