Fresh Nottingham Forest transfer link emerges as Jesse Lingard question posed

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola.

The right-back’s future is up in the air, having returned from a loan spell at Fiorentina. A summer switch could be a possibility as he finds himself out of favour under manager Caro Ancelloti at the Bernabeu.

The Reds have emerged as a “new suitor”, according to Spanish website AS, via Sport Witness. Amid suggestions Steve Cooper’s side “want” the 26-year-old, it is claimed the player would welcome a “possible departure to England”.

Striker praise

Boss Steve Cooper says the City Ground immediately “felt like home” for Nottingham Forest’s newcomers, as he reserved praise for striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Reds got their first Premier League points on the board as they secured a 1-0 home win over West Ham United at the weekend, with Awoniyi netting the only goal of the game.

For the 25-year-old, it was his first taste of the atmosphere Trentside as Forest did not play any pre-season friendlies on their own turf in the build-up to the current campaign. It was a similar situation for a number of his teammates, with eight of the starting XI making their home debuts against the Hammers.

Getting his first goal in the Garibaldi will boost Awoniyi’s confidence, according to Cooper. And the Reds manager has been pleased with how the former Union Berlin man has adapted to life in English Football.

Lingard claim

Jesse Lingard’s summer switch to Nottingham Forest continues to spark plenty of debate, with Graeme Souness the latest to weigh in with his opinion.

The Liverpool great argues Lingard would still get into Manchester United’s side, hinting they may have made a mistake in allowing him to leave. But he adds the move to the City Ground clearly “suited” the attacking midfielder.

Lingard linked up with the Reds last month as a free agent, ending a spell of more than 20 years at Old Trafford after he left when his contract was up. He featured 22 times for United last season, but only four of those appearances came as part of the starting XI.

Forest fought off significant competition from West Ham United to secure his signature, with the 29-year-old having previously enjoyed a successful loan spell in the capital. He was also said to have had other offers on the table.

Scarpa's 'dream'

Gustavo Scarpa has revealed his "biggest dream" was always to play in England amid reports he has signed a pre-contract agreement with Nottingham Forest.

The Palmeiras midfielder is set to join Forest in December once the Brazilian season comes to an end. The 28 year-old joined the club in 2018 and has racked up a total of 195 appearances, while scoring 33 goals and assisting 45 times.

His presence and experience in midfield has seen him make a name for himself with international recognition from Brazil coming too. His existing contract at Allianz Parque runs out at the end of the year and therefore the Reds won't be paying a transfer fee for his switch to the City Ground.

Speaking about what is set to be a new challenge for him at the turn of the year, Scarpa revealed he didn't think the day to play abroad would ever come. "Anyone who knows me knows the dream of playing in Europe, my biggest dream has always been [to play in] England," he told Palmeiras Online.
